‘With support of your friends in China…': Shashi Tharoor censures Pakistan, Beijing for shielding terror group at UN

Congress MP Shashi Tharoor, who is currently leading an all-party delegation overseas, attacked Pakistan and China for preventing Lashkar-e-Taiba's 'The Resistance Front' (TRF) from being named in a UNSC statement. Tharoor alleged that Pakistan, 'with the support of their friends in China', made sure that the front is not named in a press statement made by the United Nations Security Council. While interacting with Ambassador Celso Amorim, Head Adviser of the Special Advisory to the President of Brazil, Tharoor pointed out that India tried to raise the issue of LeT-backed terror group the Resistance Front before the UN Sanctions Committee multiple times, but the action was blocked by China's support to Pakistan. Tharoor said, 'LeT (Lashkar-e-Taiba) has created this front called Resistance Front, we have been reporting about Resistance Front to UN Sanctions Committee, time after time. They (TRF) claimed credit for the killings, and the next day they repeated that claim. But when they realised the gravity of it, their handlers in Pakistan got them to delete the claim. However, their claim is on record for 24 hours.' Attacking Pakistan and Beijing, the Congress MP said, 'When India encouraged our friends on Security Council to mention the Resistance Front in the press statement that Security Council issued, Pakistan government, I am sorry to say that, with the support of your friend in China, took out the name, so there is not even a reference.' Tharoor, among other MPs, is part of an all-party delegation tasked with travelling to dozens of countries and spreading the message behind India's Operation Sindoor and the fight against terrorism. During his interaction with Ambassador Amorim in Brazil, the senior Congress leader said that India's fight is against terrorism being used as an instrument of state policy. He also pointed out how the funerals of terrorists who were killed in Operation Sindoor were attended by senior police and military officials in Pakistan. Tharoor, while holding up a photo of one of these funerals, said, 'When we struck those terror bases on May 7, there was a funeral at one of these sites conducted by Hafiz Abdur Rauf, an LeT figure named by the United Nations. Look who's attending the funeral – uniformed officials of the police and military of Pakistan. These are all senior officials, this is what is going on in Pakistan.'

India Keeps Up Diplomatic Heat On Pakistan, Pushes For UN Listing Of TRF

Last Updated: India's plan is to get LeT-backed TRF banned by the sanctions committee after the UN Security Council condemned the Pahalgam attack but did not mention TRF as the group behind it Operation Sindoor may be on hold, but India is banking on its diplomacy to corner Pakistan globally. On Thursday, an Indian delegation met top officials of the UN Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT) and Counter-Terrorism Committee Executive Directorate as New Delhi stepped up efforts to designate The Resistance Front (TRF), an LeT proxy, as a UN-listed terror outfit. As the UN bodies conveyed their condolences on the April 22 Pahalgam attack, discussions were held to implement key Security Council counter-terrorism resolutions. The key areas of cooperation also include supporting victims of terrorism and countering its financing. India's plan is to get LeT-backed TRF banned by the sanctions committee after the UN Security Council issued a press statement condemning the Pahalgam attack 'in the strongest terms" but did not mention TRF as the group responsible for the attack. The Indian teams will brief the 1267 monitoring committee in the next few days in an effort to block out Pakistan and ensure it pays for fomenting terror on India's soil. The evidence that India may produce to link TRF with LeT could be digital signatures, digital intercepts, money trail, and physical connections. The emphasis of the Indian government is on Bahawalpur and Muridke—terror camps of Jaish & Lashkar that were struck by Indian forces in Operation Sindoor. Meanwhile, sources also said India briefed defence attachés of around 70 foreign nations about the 'new normal" between India and Pakistan, giving them details and timelines of the planning process, strikes, and confirmed terror linkages of the locations hit in Operation Sindoor. The defence attachés were shown solid proof, including satellite images, technical data, and assessments. The sources added that many of the proofs had not yet come out in the public domain. In the briefing on Tuesday, India placed a credible record of the relentless anti-India misinformation campaign conducted by the adversary and its ramifications on regional peace and stability. The officials were also briefed on the indigenous system that played a key role. China, which has thrown its support behind Pakistan, was not invited for the briefing, while Turkey—which also has sided with Pakistan—was invited, but they were denied after they decided to send a junior officer. Indian teams are going to be in New York for the next two-three days to keep up the diplomatic pressure on Pakistan and create grounds against Pakistan-sponsored cross-border terrorism. Post strike, India mounts fresh diplomatic offensive

NSA Ajit Doval (Pic credit: PTI) NEW DELHI: Almost immediately after Operation Sindoor , NSA Ajit Doval reached out to his counterparts from across the world, including the US, the UK, Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Japan, to brief them about India's non-escalatory and restrained response. Govt sources said he briefed them about the method of execution of the strikes, while stressing India had no intention to escalate but was prepared to retaliate "resolutely" if Pakistan chooses to respond also spoke to his counterparts from Russia, France and China. The NSA explained that India's action was precise and focused, and no civilian, military or economic targets were hit. Most countries are said to have been supportive of India's "zero tolerance" policy towards the terrorism, even as they urged both India and Pakistan to exerciserestraint and secretary of state and NSA Marco Rubio urged both sides to keep lines of communication open and avoid escalation. Both Japan and China called for restraint, while condemning terrorism. China, however, described the military strikes as foreign minister S Jaishankar had a telecon with his counterparts from Germany and France, appreciating their solidarity and support for zero-tolerance towards secretary Vikram Misri also briefed envoys of 13 countries, all UNSC member-states, including China, and raised four issues with them. These included the current escalation by Pakistani side, including at LoC, its shielding of LeT-backed TRF, targeted Indian response and the barbaric way tourists in Pahalgam were killed. He's also learnt to have spoken about cross-border linkages of the terrorists, including their communication nodes "in and to Pakistan".Misri made it clear that if Pakistan responds, India will respond too. Responding to a question from one of the ambassadors, he said the onus of de-escalation was on Pakistan as India had only responded to a terrorist attack. Asked if India had achieved its objective, Misri pointed to the fact that India had hit nine terror camps. The UK asked about the targeting of civilians in a mosque, to which Misri said the structure comprised a complex that included a terror camp. The Indian mission in the UN, sources said, is reaching out to UNSC members in New partners like Russia and Japan strongly condemned terrorism but also urged India and Pakistan to avoid escalation. Japanese foreign minister Takeshi Iwaya spoke to Jaishankar and said "fair investigation and punishment" of the offenders are important. Iwaya stated that Japan is deeply concerned that the recent series of events could lead to further reprisals and escalate into a full-scale military conflict, while urging both India and Pakistan to exercise restraint and stabilise the situation through dialogue. Russia again called upon both countries to resolve their agreements in line with the 1972 Simla Agreement and the 1999 Lahore Declaration. France also sought restraint and de-escalation.
