What is the flower moon?
COLUMBUS, Ga. (WRBL) — This week's weather question is What is the Flower Moon? In short, it's the full moon that appears for the month of May and is meant to signify the flowers that bloom throughout the month. According to the Old Farmer's Almanac, Native Americans call the moon, Budding Moon and Leaf Budding Moon to celebrate the awakening of local flora, which really begins to leaf out now in many areas. Similarly, Planting Moon by the Dakota and Lakota tribes marks the time when seeds should be started for the farming season ahead. The Flower moon will peak Monday evening on the 12th. as it rises in the sky. The full moon will also be a micromoon, meaning it will be in the farthest point in its orbit from Earth. However, The moon may not appear smaller to the naked eye, but in fact larger due to an optical illusion scientists call moon illusion.
