Shakira Says Immigrants in the U.S. Live in "Constant Fear' Under Trump's Policies
Yara Sameh Shakira is opening up about the 'constant fear' that immigrants face in the United States today amid President Donald Trump's aggressive immigration policies. The Lebanese-Colombian superstar, 48, recently spoke with BBC News about how the U.S. has changed since she moved to Miami as a teenager to expand her music career. 'I was only 19 when I moved to the US, like many other Colombian immigrants who come to this country looking for a better future,' she said, noting she relied on poetry and written works from Leonard Cohen, Walt Whitman and Bob Dylan to learn English and help 'understand how the English language works within songwriting.' Shakira has risen to international fame over the years, scoring multiple Top 10 hits on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, as well as her song 'Hips Don't Lie' peaking at No. 1. She has also earned four Grammy Awards, including best Latin pop album for "Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran" at the 2025 Grammys earlier this year. However, this year has also been notably challenging for the Latin community amid Trump's return to the White House, as his administration prioritizes cracking down on alleged immigration violations. Most recently, there have been ongoing protests in Los Angeles against unlawful immigration ICE raids across the country. 'It means living in constant fear,' Shakira said of living in the U.S. today. 'And it's painful to see. Now, more than ever, we have to remain united,' she added. 'Now, more than ever, we have to raise our voices and make it very clear that a country can change its immigration policies, but the treatment of all people must always be humane.' Earlier this year, Shakira also dedicated her Grammy Award 'to all my immigrant brothers and sisters in this country,' adding, 'You are loved, you are worth it, and I will always fight with you.' In response to the L.A. protests, Trump deployed California's National Guard to quell the demonstrations. However, California Gov. Gavin Newsom pushed back, formally requesting that the Trump Administration 'Rescind their unlawful deployment of troops in Los Angeles County and return them to my command.' The case is currently making its way through the courts, with the appeals court temporarily blocking a federal judge's order that directed Trump to return control of National Guard troops to the state. The appeals court said it would hold a hearing on Tuesday. read more Gold prices rise, 21 Karat at EGP 3685 NATO's Role in Israeli-Palestinian Conflict US Expresses 'Strong Opposition' to New Turkish Military Operation in Syria Shoukry Meets Director-General of FAO Lavrov: confrontation bet. nuclear powers must be avoided News Iran Summons French Ambassador over Foreign Minister Remarks News Aboul Gheit Condemns Israeli Escalation in West Bank News Greek PM: Athens Plays Key Role in Improving Energy Security in Region News One Person Injured in Explosion at Ukrainian Embassy in Madrid News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier Sports Former Al Zamalek Player Ibrahim Shika Passes away after Long Battle with Cancer Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt Business Fear & Greed Index Plummets to Lowest Level Ever Recorded amid Global Trade War Arts & Culture Zahi Hawass: Claims of Columns Beneath the Pyramid of Khafre Are Lies News Flights suspended at Port Sudan Airport after Drone Attacks News Shell Unveils Cost-Cutting, LNG Growth Plan Videos & Features Video: Trending Lifestyle TikToker Valeria Márquez Shot Dead during Live Stream Technology 50-Year Soviet Spacecraft 'Kosmos 482' Crashes into Indian Ocean News 3 Killed in Shooting Attack in Thailand

Shakira's Medellín Concert Postponed over Safety Concerns
Yara Sameh Lebanese-Colombian superstar Shakira's concert in Medellín, Colombia has been postponed due to stage safety concerns. The news comes on the heels of a cancellation for a show in Lima, Peru last week due to the superstar's hospitalization for an undisclosed 'abdominal issue.' Event organizers said there were safety concerns for the performance — set for February 24 at Estadio Atanasio Girardot — after the roof of the stage installed by local production was damaged. The 'Hips Don't Lie' singer announced Sunday the news on X in a statement in Spanish, writing that the decision was 'out of my hands and those of my production team.' 'My Medellín people! It hurts me greatly to not be able to get up on stage and sing for you with the desire that I had,' she said. 'My sons were excited to visit Medellín, as was I to be reunited with you and share all the surprises that I had prepared for you.' Shakira continued, 'I am very sorry for the inconvenience, especially for those who have traveled. It's out of my hands and those of my production team, but I am sure that we will soon find a new date to celebrate together. I am always grateful for the unconditional support you give me. I love you all very much and hope to see you all very soon.' The performance in Medellín was the second in Shakira's home country of Colombia, following a show a couple of days prior held in her hometown of Barranquilla. The Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran World Tour — named after her 12th studio album, which clinched Best Latin Pop Album at the 2025 Grammys — kicked off February 11 and will traverse Latin and North America, wrapping in San Francisco on June 30. In October, the tour was expanded with new dates and upgrades for some venues from arenas to stadiums due to demand. Following her February 16 cancellation at Lima's Estadio Nacional, Shakira resumed the tour the following day with a scheduled second performance at the venue. In her initial announcement, the singer wrote that her team and the promoters are already working on a new show date for the prior concert: 'Thank you all for your understanding. I love you so much,' she wrote, signing the note with 'Shak.'

Shakira Hospitalized for Abdominal Issue, Postpones Peru Concert
Yara Sameh Lebanese-Colombian superstar Shakira — who recently embarked on her 'Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran' world tour — has been hospitalized with an 'abdominal issue' forcing her to postpone her show in Peru. 'I am sorry to inform you all that last night I had to go to the ER for an abdominal issue and am currently hospitalized,' she wrote in a statement shared to X Sunday. 'The doctors whose care I am currently under have communicated that I am not in good enough condition to perform this evening.' The 'Hips Don't Lie' hitmaker, 48, added that she was 'very sad' about the postponement as she had been 'looking forward to reuniting' with her 'incredible fans' in Peru. Shakira shared that she's hopeful she'll be feeling better by Monday to be released and return to the stage. 'My team and the promoters are already working on a new date to communicate to you. Thank you all for your understanding, I love you all. Shak,' she concluded. The Grammy winner also shared the same statement in Spanish on the platform. Shakira, who kicked off her tour at Estádio Olímpico Nilton Santos in Rio de Janeiro last Tuesday, February 11, is scheduled to perform again in Peru Monday. She is then scheduled to perform five shows in Colombia — three in her hometown of Barranquilla — from February 20 through February 27. Shakira is set to close out the South American leg of the tour on March 8 before she kicks off her Mexico dates on March 12. The musician took to Instagram on Feb. 12 to express her gratitude for her fans and their response to her tour. 'Rio! I couldn't have asked for a better crowd to kick off the tour! Thank you for all your love, warmth, and energy on an unforgettable night! São Paulo, are you ready?' she captioned a slew of photos on Instagram.
