Israeli strike on Hezbollah base in eastern Lebanon kills six
An Israeli strike Saturday on a Hezbollah base in eastern Lebanon has killed six people and wounded two others, Lebanese state media reported. The state-run Lebanese News Agency (NNA) said the raid which was carried by "an enemy drone on the Shaara area adjacent to the town of Janta, on the slopes of the eastern Lebanon mountain range, resulted in the killing of six people and the wounding of two others." The Israeli army said that earlier Saturday Israeli warplanes conducted what it decsribed as "an intelligence-based strike on Hezbollah operatives in the area of Bekaa in Lebanon." It said the strike was conducted "after the terrorists were operating in a strategic weapons manufacturing and storage site belonging to the terrorist organization." It added that the Israeli army continues to operate to remove any threat to the State of Israel and "will prevent any attempt by the Hezbollah terrorist organization to rebuild its forces, in accordance with the ceasefire understandings." The ceasefire between Israel and the Iran-backed Hezbollah militia, which was agreed in November last year, was recently extended until February 18, according to the White House. The originally planned withdrawal of Israeli troops from southern Lebanon within 60 days has been delayed. Both sides accuse the other of violating the ceasefire.
