Young victim in Algiers shooting dies from her injuries days later
ALGIERS, La. (WGNO) — The 9-year-old wounded in an Algiers shooting on May 12, has died.
The Orleans Parish Coroner's Office identified the victim as Lee'Lani Brooks.
According to the New Orleans Police Department, on that day, Brooks and her mother were attempting to escape a shooting in the 1600 block of Elizardi Boulevard when a stray bullet flew through their window striking the child.

The child was taken to the hospital where she had been in critical condition for several days.
On May 16, Brooks died from her injuries, according to the coroner's report.
Through the investigation, NOPD officers identified 19-year-old Evans Rogers as a suspect and on May 13 obtained an arrest warrant for Rogers who had barricaded himself inside a Terrytown hotel.
