Dad Tries To Teach Baby to High-Five, But Golden Retriever Has Other Plans

A dad trying to teach his baby how to high-five had an unexpected student in the shape of his golden retriever—and, of course, she came top of the class. In an adorable Instagram video, dad Lee Cahill was seen trying to teach his baby, Roy, how to do the perfect high-five. He held his hand up in front of the infant, who was perched inside his activity chair. While Cahill was focused on helping his son master the skill, his golden retriever Nelly proved to be the perfect student. As she sat beside him, she copied his every move and raised her paw to show that she could do it, too. When her first attempts weren't getting her noticed enough, Nelly then interrupted Cahill and stood in front of him to become the star of the show. She certainly got plenty of praise for her efforts and intelligence eventually. The video was shared on Instagram (@lrcahi02) in April, and social-media users can't get enough of Nelly's main character energy. The clip has gone viral with over 1.8 million views and more than 91,000 likes on Instagram at the time of writing. We could not verify the details of the video. The caption alongside the clip reads: "I can do that dad! Dad, look at me, I'm doing it! DAAAAD I CAN DO IT!" It is no secret that golden retrievers are generally quite easy to train, and that's a result of their joyous temperament. The American Kennel Club highlights how eager golden retrievers are to please their owners, and training only serves to strengthen the bond they share. It is their excellent trainability that makes golden retrievers such great candidates to be service dogs, or for use in search and rescue and hunting. With that in mind, it may be no surprise that Nelly was so keen to show her owner that she has nailed the perfect high-five (even if her baby brother hasn't). Since the video was went viral on Instagram, it has captured plenty of attention from social-media users who have lauded Nelly's hilarious antics. This has led to more than 250 comments on the Instagram Reel so far. One comment reads: "Oh my heart, that's your first baby!" Another Instagram user wrote: "Put me in coach." A third person added: "Dog's like … move over I got this." One comment read: "It's giving Hermione Granger." Do you have funny and adorable videos or pictures of your pet you want to share?
