Former middle school teacher gets 18-26 years for indecent liberties
Feb. 13—A 34-year-old former teacher at SanLee Middle School was sentenced to 18 to 26 years in the North Carolina Department of Corrections on Monday, Feb. 10 for sex offenses. Andrew Braxton Allen of Siler City was set to go to trial on that date, but instead pleaded guilty to all six felony offenses involving two minor victims, including two counts each of indecent liberties, first-degree statutory sex offense and sexual activity with a student. Allen, who was arrested on Nov. 14, 2022, has been held in the Raleigh Central Prison under a total bond of $3 million. In a search warrant, Detective Lt. Megan D. Rosser said she found at least two typed letters to a seventh-grade boy, to whom Allen allegedly gave 10 gifts. She referred to such activity as "pedophile grooming" in a court document. One student said that a sexual act was committed between him and Allen while other students were at recess, according to a court document. Sexual jokes were exchanged with students and photos of a student were allegedly found on Allen's cell phone. Drawings of male genitalia by students were allegedly found inside Allen's classroom closet, and a sexual conversation with a student was allegedly found on Allen's Google Drive account. Allen was ordered to have no contact with the two victims and not be employed in the education of minors when he is released from incarceration. He will have to register as a sex offender for 30 years, according to a court document. Lee County Superior Court Judge C. Winston Gilchrist ordered that all of Allen's electronic devices involved in the two cases to be destroyed. The dates of the offenses ranged from Sept. 1, 2017 to June 1, 2018 with one victim and Sept. 1, 2021 to Nov. 1, 2022 with another victim. Allen was represented by defense attorney Norman "Chas" Post Jr. The prosecuting attorney was Tiffany Marie Bartholomew. Post noted that Allen had no prior criminal convictions.
