Food firm building solar car ports to cut carbon
A frozen food firm is building 39 solar car ports to help charge its fleet of electric refrigerated delivery vans in a bid to cut its carbon emissions. Apetito, based in Trowbridge, Wiltshire, was granted retrospective planning permission to build the three-metre (10ft) canopies mounted with solar panels on land freed up when an unused building was demolished. The company, which supplies meals to care homes, schools, and hospitals, has already installed solar panels on many of the roofs of its manufacturing plant. According to the Local Democracy Reporting Service, once the carports are complete, it will provide 15% of the electricity used across the entire site. Wiltshire meals provider donates more than £17,000 to charity
A Trowbridge-based meals provider has donated more than £17,600 to a local charity. Apetito, which supplies meals to the health and social care sector, has donated the money to Alzheimer's Support, which helps people living with dementia and their carers across Wiltshire. The company has had a partnership with the charity since 2016. A group of six colleagues also took part in the Bath Half Marathon 2025. The company also collects donations at its monthly Sunday Lunch Club for residents aged 65 and over in the local area. Sarah Marriott, chief executive of Alzheimer's Support, said: "We really value the ongoing partnership with Apetito and appreciate this generous donation and all the hard work that has gone into raising the money. "It's amazing to see how enthusiastic the staff are in helping us to make a real difference to the lives of those with dementia. "This money will support many of our essential services, including our day clubs across Wiltshire which provide respite to individuals living with dementia and promote independence for those living at home." Apetito has a dedicated social value committee made up of staff members from across the business. This group aims to continue driving change through the charity partnership and to come up with new fundraising ideas.
