Two Vietnamese charged with drug trafficking in Johor Bahru
JOHOR BAHRU: Two Vietnamese nationals, a 45-year-old man and a 22-year-old woman, were charged in the Magistrate's Court today for drug trafficking and possession. The accused, Lee Yuen Fei and Trieu Thi Mai, allegedly trafficked 38,022 grammes of MDMA at Jalan Seri Orkid 25, Taman Seri Orkid on June 14. No plea was recorded as the case falls under Section 39B(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries the death penalty or life imprisonment, along with a minimum of 15 lashes if not sentenced to death. The High Court will handle the proceedings. Additionally, both were charged with possessing 1,375 grammes of ketamine under Section 12(2) of the same Act, punishable by a fine up to RM100,000, five years' imprisonment, or both. Deputy Public Prosecutor Siti Aishah Latif led the prosecution, while the accused were unrepresented. The court set August 26 for mention.

Vietnamese nationals charged in JB with trafficking 38kg of MDMA
JOHOR BARU: Two Vietnamese nationals, a man and a woman, have been charged in a Magistrate's Court here with drug trafficking and possession. On the drug trafficking charge, male accused Lee Yuen Fei, 45, and Trieu Thi Mai, 22, are alleged to have trafficked 38,022g (38kg) of methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA) at 8.20pm at Jalan Seri Orkid 25, Taman Seri Orkid on June 14. However, no plea was recorded and the accused only nodded in acknowledgment after the charges were read out to them on Thursday (June 26). This is because the case, framed under Section 39B(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 which provides for the death sentence, or life imprisonment and no fewer than 15 strokes of the cane upon conviction, is under the jurisdiction of the High Court. They were also charged with possession of a dangerous drug, ketamine, weighing 1,375g, at the same location and time. The charge, under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, provides for a fine not exceeding RM100,000 or a maximum prison sentence of five years, or both, upon conviction. Duo charged in JB court for trafficking 38kg of MDMA, both plead guilty
JOHOR BARU: A Malaysian man and a Vietnamese woman were jointly charged in the Magistrate's Court here on Thursday (June 26) with distributing over 38kg of drugs in Taman Sri Orkid earlier this month. Lee Yuen Fei, 45, and Trieu Thi Mai, 22, were accused of trafficking 38,022g of 3,4-Methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA) on June 14. They were charged under Section 39B(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries the mandatory death sentence or life imprisonment with not less than 15 strokes of the cane upon conviction. The pair also faced a second charge for possessing 1,375g of ketamine on the same date and location, under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. If convicted, the offence is punishable with a fine not exceeding RM100,000 or imprisonment of up to five years, or both. Both accused, who were unrepresented, pleaded guilty to both charges before Magistrate Nabilah Nizam. The court fixed Aug 26 for mention, pending the pathology report.
