Mandya DC urges students to plant trees
Mandya: Air, light, and water are essential for human life. It is the responsibility of all of us to protect the environment around us, said deputy commissioner Kumara on Thursday.
As part of
World Environment Day
, he inaugurated a tree-planting programme organised on the premises of the Government Stone Building College. "Nature gave humans a living paradise. As responsible citizens, we must preserve the environment," he said. He urged students to take up the task of planting and nurturing trees. He proposed launching a movement to celebrate birthdays by planting 10 to 15 saplings in front of one's home.
"In the modern age, the younger generation often shows indifference towards the importance of environmental protection.
There is a need to raise awareness among school and college students about the importance of the environment," he opined. He called upon everyone to take steps to prevent water, air, and noise pollution in order to create a better environment for future generations.
Zilla panchayat chief executive officer KR Nandini, superintendent of police Mallikarjun Baladandi, district senior civil judge and secretary of the Legal Services Authority Anand participated in the tree-planting programme.
9-yr-old felicitated
Later, they honoured Syed Sarfaraz Ahmad, a 9-year-old from Mandya who brought pride to the district by winning a gold medal in the 7th International Thai Martial Arts Games Kickboxing held in Thailand recently.
