PGH breaks ground on pediatric and adult specialty center

The Philippine General Hospital on Wednesday officially began the construction of the 16-story pediatric and adult specialty center with the aim to expand access to specialized healthcare for Filipinos. According to PGH Director Dr. Gerardo Legaspi, the facility is designed to house 450 beds, modern pediatric emergency and operating rooms, intensive care units, and outpatient clinics. This will also house an expanded dietary department, which will cater to the entire hospital, as well as dormitories, dining halls, a canteen, and a 300-seat convention center. 'This new Specialty Center reflects our unwavering commitment to strengthen public healthcare infrastructure,' Legaspi said in a press release. 'It will allow us to better serve patients who rely on PGH for complex and urgent medical needs,' he added. The first phase of the project is expected to cost P675.5 million, and its target completion is in 2027. Among those who attended the groundbreaking ceremony were First Lady Louise ''Liza'' Araneta-Marcos, Health Secretary Dr. Teodoro Herbosa, Public Works and Highways Secretary Manuel Bonoan, Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna-Pangan, UP President Angelo Jimenez, and UP Manila Chancellor Dr. Michael Tee. — VBL, GMA Integrated News
