Sreesanth suspended by KCA for three years

Kochi: Former India speedster has been suspended by the Kerala Cricket Association (KCA) for three years. The decision to ban him was taken at its most recent annual general body meeting and was shared by the KCA in a statement issued on Friday. 'The statement of Sreesanth attacking the KCA for Kerala cricketer Sanju Samson not being included in the national side for the Champions Trophy tournament was baseless and needless. Hence, we have decided to suspend him for three years from the KCA,' read the statement. Sreesanth had alleged that Samson was sidelined by the KCA to play for the Kerala side last year and hence missed selection to the national team for the Champions Trophy. Meanwhile, Sreesanth is now waiting for the official communication from the KCA, and according to sources, he will be taking legal recourse against the three-year suspension. This is not the first time that Sreesanth has courted trouble, as the previous instance was in 2023 when the Legends League Cricket (LLC) Commissioner served him a legal notice following his rant over an on-field altercation with the present Indian men's team head coach and former national player Gautam Gambhir.

Former India cricketer Sreesanth suspended by KCA for three years

Kochi: Controversial former India speedster has been suspended by the Kerala Cricket Association (KCA) for three years. Hence, we have decided to suspend him for three years from the KCA,' said the statement. His previous troubles came at his last IPL match for the Rajasthan Royals against Punjab on May 9, 2013, the season in which he was accused of being involved in spot-fixing, which led to his arrest. Though Sreesanth always maintained his innocence throughout the controversy, he was handed a life ban along with Ankeet Chavan and Ajit Chandila. The fast bowler then challenged the decision in the Supreme Court, which set aside the life ban and asked the BCCI to consider a fresh punishment. The sentence was reduced to a seven-year suspension, which ended in September 2020. Thereafter, Sreesanth played for Kerala in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and the Vijay Hazare Trophy in 2021. He also made his Ranji Trophy comeback and he played his last match for Kerala against Meghalaya in the 2021-22 edition, finishing with 2 for 40 and 0 for 57 in the two innings. Soon, he announced his retirement, finishing his career with 213 wickets in 74 first-class games while he picked up 124 wickets in 92 appearances in List-A cricket. Sreesanth also played 65 T20 matches in which he bagged 54 wickets. The pacer made his India debut in October 2005 in an ODI against Sri Lanka. He represented the country in 53 ODIs and picked 75 wickets. He also played 27 Test matches and 10 T20Is for India, bagging 87 and seven wickets respectively.

Say No To Cricket: Former Indian Cricketer Urges BCCI To End Cricket Ties With Pakistan Post Pahalgam Terror Attack

Pahalgam Terror Attack: In the wake of the horrific terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir, former Indian cricketer Shreevats Goswami has called on the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) to completely sever all cricketing ties with Pakistan. The attack, carried out by The Resistance Front a proxy of the banned terror group Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) claimed the lives of at least 26 tourists, sparking outrage across the country. Goswami's Strong Message: 'Say No To Cricket' Goswami, who represented India at the Under-19 level and played in the IPL, took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to voice his anguish and frustration over the recurring attacks. He made a passionate appeal to both the Indian cricket board and the central government to end any association with Pakistan in the world of cricket. 'SAY NO TO CRICKET! And this is exactly why I say - you don't play cricket with Pakistan. Not now. Not ever," Goswami wrote in a lengthy post. "When BCCI or the government refused to send India to the Champions Trophy in Pakistan, some had the audacity to say, 'Oh, but sport should rise above politics.' Really? Because from where I stand, murdering innocent Indians seems to be their national sport,' he added. In his post, Goswami called for a different kind of response one that reflects national pride and determination, rather than merely playing cricket. 'If that's how they play - then it's time we respond in a language they truly understand. Not with bats and balls. But with resolve. With dignity. With zero tolerance,' he wrote, emphasizing the need for firm action. — Shreevats goswami (@shreevats1) April 22, 2025 An Emotional Recall of Kashmir Visit Goswami also recalled his recent visit to Pahalgam during the Legends League Cricket, where he interacted with locals and experienced the returning peace. Expressing his heartbreak, he said the latest attack shattered hopes of normalcy. 'Just a few months ago, I was in Kashmir... saw hope returning to their eyes. It felt like peace had finally found its way back. And now... this bloodshed again. It breaks something inside you,' he said. He concluded his post with a firm statement: 'No more. Not this time.' India-Pakistan Cricket Ties Already Limited While Goswami's message has struck a chord with many online, it also reignites the ongoing debate around cricket diplomacy between India and Pakistan. The two nations have not played a bilateral series since 2013 and only meet in ICC or ACC events at neutral venues. India last played a full series in Pakistan in 2008, and Pakistan last toured India during the 2023 ODI World Cup. Recently, India declined to travel to Pakistan for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, opting instead to play all their matches at a neutral venue in Dubai. Neutral Venues to Continue Till 2028 As per the ongoing agreement between the BCCI and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), the two nations will continue to avoid bilateral tours and will only face off at neutral venues for ICC events until 2028. This arrangement will also apply to the upcoming Women's World Cup in October 2025, to be hosted in India, where Pakistan is expected to play its matches outside Indian territory.

Chris Gayle backs Virat Kohli to break his Champions Trophy record

Former West Indies opening batter Chris Gayle has backed India stalwart Virat Kohli to dethrone him from the summit of the ICC Champions Trophy run-scorers' list. The explosive southpaw also extended a heartwarming message to Kohli's long-time partner Rohit Sharma to keep scoring sixes and enjoy his time at the crease for as long as he wants to. The Champions Trophy is set to return to the lives of cricket fans on February 19 after more than seven years of absence. As the hype around the tournament continues to soar to new heights, so does the talk about Kohli's lost form. Across all formats, Kohli is under huge pressure to regain his magic touch with the bat. But the former India captain has now found support from his old Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) teammate Gayle who has backed him to end the Champions Trophy as the leading run-getter. "Virat Kohli is 200 runs away, so I'm sure he'll get it. Eventually, another record will be gone. So, like I said, that's the nature of the game, and that's the nature of sport as well," Gayle said on the sidelines of the Legends League Cricket event. The 36-year-old star has delivered some of the most memorable ODI performances in the Champions Trophy history. He boasts 529 runs in 13 matches at a jaw-dropping average of 88.16, setting him 263 runs away from breaking Gayle's tally of 791, the highest in the tournament. "Everybody has a chance to break records and set new records, and that's what we want in the sport as well. So everybody gets a chance to keep the sport growing and make sure everybody is a bit more entertaining as well. Hopefully, it will be a great Champions Trophy, and I wish all the teams all the very best," he added. While Gayle expects Kohli to break his record, India skipper Rohit bettered the West Indies icon's ODI record over the weekend. During the second ODI between India and England in Cuttack, Rohit breezed past Gayle in the list of most sixes struck by a player in the format. On his way to a blistering 119, Rohit effortlessly hit seven sixes and went past Gayle's 331 for the record of second-highest sixes in the ODIs. 'The Universal Boss' was happy that 'Hitman' toppled him for the record. "The Hitman has five (three) double centuries in ODI cricket, so if anybody wants to break a record, you want a quality player like that to actually do such a thing. Like I said, it's great for the sport as well," he said. "Keep the sport entertaining, and keep India entertaining as well. We need more sixes, so continue to hit more sixes, Rohit, keep enjoying the game, play as long as possible, as long as you want, and just enjoy it," he added. After the conclusion of the third ODI against England, India will shift their focus to the Champions Trophy opener against Bangladesh on February 20 in Dubai.
