Their son is an MLB catcher. Years after his debut, they finally got to see him play.
Standing there at second base Thursday night, seconds after legging out a double, Keibert Ruiz did what he had waited 10 years to do.
He waved.
In the family section behind home plate at Nationals Park, his mom, Leidys, put her hand over her heart as tears began to well. Next to her, Ruiz's dad, Jose, held his fist up in the air and jumped up and down. Ruiz's parents, until Thursday, had never seen their son play in the majors.
