NFL 'tush push' ruling draws USC reaction

NFL 'tush push' ruling draws USC reaction Recently, the NFL made headlines surrounding a vote on the legal status of one of its more popular and controversial plays. Known as the "tush push," the play essentially consists of offensive linemen getting behind the ball carrier—typically the quarterback—and pushing him forward past the line to gain. The play has been popularized by the Philadelphia Eagles in recent seasons. However, as USC fans know, its history goes back nearly two decades to October 15, 2005. That evening, USC running back Reggie Bush pushed quarterback Matt Leinart into the end zone to take down archrival Notre Dame. In late May, the NFL held a vote regarding the legalization status of the play, which has come under much scrutiny in recent seasons. After being put to vote, it was determined that the play will still be legal moving forward. Following the news, Leinart took to social media to share his thoughts on the matter. "Yo @ReggieBush we trendsetters," Leinart wrote. "The BUSH PUSH lives on!" This fall will mark 20 years since the original Bush Push took place on that fateful evening in South Bend, Indiana. Very few of the players who participated in that game are still playing football. But as long as the play continues to be used in the NFL, the legacy of the Bush Push will continue to live on. "

Former Arizona Cardinals QB Matt Leinart offers sincere apology

Former Arizona Cardinals QB Matt Leinart offers sincere apology Being in Green Bay for the draft brings back memories for the former Cardinals first-round pick. Today is the beginning of the 2025 NFL draft, and that will bring back memories for Arizona Cardinals about many of the team's great players selections and also major disappointments. One of the most hopeful drafts was in 2006 when quarterback Matt Leinart fell all the way to the 10th pick of the draft and the Cardinals were able to select him. Leinart is in Green Bay, Wisconsin for the draft and it brought back memories for him. He posted a video on TikTok for Cardinals fans. Have a watch: This is what he says: "All right, so this message is to all the Arizona Cardinals fans. We're here in Green Bay, Wisconsin for the draft and, honestly, it just brings back a lot of great memories. In 2006, I was drafted 10th overall to Arizona. It really truly changed my life forever, and I just wanted to tell you fans, the Bidwills ad everybody in that organization that I'm sorry. I'm truly sorry that it didn't work out. It's a shame." Leinart is one of the greatest draft disappointments they have had. Everyone believed that, after his extremely successful college career at USC, that the Cardinals had their franchise quarterback. He had a solid rookie season. Then in 2007, new head coach Ken Whisenhunt started to lean on Kurt Warner more, with Leinart starting but Warner playing in two-minute and hurry-up offenses. Leinart broke his collarbone late in the season and then, in 2008, Warner won a quarterback competition. Warner led the Cardinals to the Super Bowl and two playoff appearances and then retired in 2010. Leinart was supposed to be the guy in 2010 but ended up being cut when Derek Anderson was named the starter, which led to three years of bad quarterback play before the Carson Palmer trade in 2013. He played in the NFL until 2012 and now has a successful career as a college football analyst for FOX Sports. Matt, it's okay. We are sorry, too. We all wanted it to work out.
