Local business helps victims of domestic violence on ‘Pi Day'
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — Each year on March 14 or 3/14, math enthusiasts around the world celebrate Pi Day — named after the first three digits of an infinite number with many practical uses.
To celebrate the unofficial holiday, one business in Northwest Arkansas offered a unique discount for a worthy cause.
Smokin' Oak Wood-Fired Pizza and Taproom in Fayetteville offers $3.14 pizzas every Pi Day to any customer who donates to a local nonprofit.
This year, Smokin' Oak donates all proceeds to the Northwest Arkansas' Women's Shelter.
The shelter provides a safe place for those affected by domestic violence, a cause that manager Leisha Bejarano says she's passionate about.
'I've had the opportunity to meet some of the women in leadership at the women's shelter and they're incredibly motivational. Just to hear the passion for what they do and I know the impact they make on a daily basis,' Bejarano said.

According to the NWAWS' website, 1 in 3 women and 1 in 4 men will be victims of Intimate Partner Violence in their lifetime.
In 2023, the shelter provided more than 500 hours of counseling, helping around 3,500 people in our area.
Bejarano says the shelter saves lives.
'There's a lot of people here in Northwest Arkansas that are in incredibly hard situations. It's really a safe space for anyone that is suffering with domestic abuse,' she said.
If you are suffering from domestic violence, call NWAWS' hotline at (479) 246-9999, or visit its website for resources.
