EAM Jaishankar greets peopel of Cameroon on country's independence day

New Delhi [India], May 20 (ANI): External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Tuesday expressed his greetings to Cameroon Foreign Minister Lejeune Mbella Mbella on their National Day. Jaishankar expressed his confidence that the cooperation between both the countries will continue to grow stronger. In a post on X, he said, 'Greetings to FM Lejeune Mbella Mbella, the Government and the people of Cameroon on their National Day. Confident that our cooperation will continue to grow stronger.' Jaishankar shared an image of the 1,000 metric tonnes of food assistance and medicines that India had earlier sent to Cameroon. India on April 9 sent a consignment of 1,000 MT of rice to Cameroon for food grain assistance. Official Spokesperson for the Ministry of External Affairs, Randhir Jaiswal, said the effort is in the spirit of a committed partnership with the Global South. In a post on X, Jaiswal said, 'India: A committed partner to the Global South. India sends food-grain assistance for the people of Cameroon. A consignment of 1000MT Rice departed today from Nhava Sheva Port to Cameroon.' India and Cameroon enjoy warm and friendly relations dating back to the pre-independence era of Cameroon. As per MEA, the bilateral relations have received further impetus with the opening of India's resident mission in Yaounde in 2019. Bilateral trade has been growing steadily, reaching USD 1.1 billion during FY 2022-23 from USD 523 million in 2018-19. As per the MEA, India extended two Lines of Credit (LoCs) worth USD 79.65 million to the Republic of Cameroon for Rice, Maize, and Cassava plantation projects. India has also been supporting Cameroon in capacity building by providing training to Cameroon officials in various areas under ITEC and scholarships/ fellowships under ICCR. The food security crisis in Cameroon is due to several factors, mainly the reduced availability and accessibility of stocks of staple products and livestock for milk and meat. According to the World Bank, nearly a quarter of a million Cameroonians are facing severe or elevated food insecurity. (ANI)

Oman warns against bid to displace Palestinians

JEDDAH: The Sultanate of Oman participated in the Extraordinary Meeting of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), which was held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia to discuss the developments of the ongoing Israeli aggression on the occupied Palestinian territories. Sayyid Badr bin Hamad al Busaidy, Foreign Minister, who headed the Sultanate of Oman's delegation, stressed its firm and supportive position for implementing the terms of the ceasefire agreement in Gaza, the full Israeli withdrawal, return of displaced Palestinians and ensuring delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza. He cautioned against any attempts to displace Palestinians or violate their rights. The foreign minister underscored the Sultanate of Oman's support for the efforts undertaken by the member states of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation to confront the Israeli aggression, stressing the need to establish an effective international mechanism to end violations, protect civilians, lift the siege on the Gaza Strip and hold Israeli officials accountable for the crimes committed. The Extraordinary Meeting of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) was chaired by Lejeune Mbella Mbella, Minister of External Relations of Cameroon and Chairman of the current session of the OCI Ministerial Council, in the presence of ministers of foreign affairs. The meeting was attended by Shaikh Ahmed Hashil al Maskari, Head of the GCC and Regional Neighbourhood Department; Salim bin Mohammed al Busaidy, Consul-General of the Sultanate of Oman in Jeddah, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) and Deputy Permanent Representative to the OIC in Jeddah as well as a number of officials from the Foreign Ministry. Sayyid Badr met with Dr Seyed Abbas Araghchi, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iran, on the sidelines of the meeting. They discussed bilateral relations and ways to foster cooperation between the two friendly countries and exchanged views on the regional and international developments stressing the importance of promoting dialogue and diplomatic efforts to find peaceful and just solutions to conflicts and enhancing opportunities for achieving security, stability and peace. The foreign minister also met with Bakhtiyor Saidov, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan. They exchanged views on regional and international developments. They also discussed aspects of diplomatic cooperation between the two countries, stressing the continuity to bolster economic and investment partnership relations as well as the cultural and scientific cooperation programmes. Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al-Busaidi, Minister of Foreign Affairs, who headed the Omani delegation, reiterated Oman's firm stance in support of implementing the ceasefire agreement in Gaza, the complete Israeli withdrawal, the return of displaced persons, and ensuring the delivery of humanitarian aid to all areas of Gaza. He warned against any attempts to displace Palestinians or violate their rights. The extraordinary meeting of the OIC was chaired by H.E. Lejeune Mbella Mbella, Minister of External Relations of Cameroon and the current Chairman of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers, with the participation of several foreign ministers. Attendees from Oman included H.E. Ambassador Sheikh Ahmed bin Hashel Al-Maskari, Head of the Gulf Cooperation Council and Regional Neighbors Department, and Minister Plenipotentiary Salem bin Mohammed Al-Busaidi, Consul General of Oman and Deputy Permanent Representative to the OIC in Jeddah, along with other Ministry of Foreign Affairs officials. H.E. Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al-Busaidi met with H.E. Dr. Abbas Araghchi, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, on the sidelines of the extraordinary OIC meeting in Jeddah. The discussion covered bilateral relations between the two friendly countries, ways to enhance mutual cooperation, and exchanged views on the rapidly evolving regional and international developments. They emphasized the importance of dialogue and diplomatic efforts to find peaceful and just solutions to various conflicts and disputes, and to enhance opportunities for security, stability, and peace for all. H.E. Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al-Busaidi also met with H.E. Bakhtiyor Saidov, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan, to exchange views and consult on several regional and international developments. The two ministers discussed aspects of diplomatic cooperation between their countries, confirming their commitment to continuing support and development of overall economic and investment partnership relations, along with cultural and scientific cooperation programs.
