These girls are bored of loneliness, want to spend time with money to.... In the digital era of social media, where people's real life is filtered behind the effects of reels and photos, what happens beyond the digital world is a lot more than what meets the eye. While people are hooked on maintaining a connection online, their real world ironically has been witnessing emotional disconnection. Despite having hundreds of friends online, when it comes to having that one companion that one can be real and honest with, most people are lacking that emotional bond, feeling lonelier than ever. In the middle of this situation, a new phenomenon called 'City Rides' has started in cities like Shanghai, Hangzhou, and Shenyang. A lot of young women in this trend hire strangers who are mostly college students with luxury cars like Porsche, Rolls-Royce, etc. However, what's surprising is that these strangers are hired not for any physical or dating purpose; women pay them to share their hearts with them. Yes, you heard that right. Women are paying to feel heard and share their emotions without judgment. This trend came into the limelight and went viral, after a man who claims himself as a 'passenger angel' offered a luxury ride for just 88 yuan (approx. Rs. 750). He said he will be all ears like a big brother, a private listener, or a support system. Whereas, another participant called Lemon Can came in the spotlight after his offer of charging 99 yuan for a half-hour ride in his Ferrari. From job stress, relationship issues, to personal issues, girls can vent about anything, and these city riders would be listening to them without any interruption. What's interesting is that this emotional hearing at a cost has served to benefit many. One woman speaking about her feedback on this service revealed that she felt lighter after speaking about her heartbreak. She broke down in front of him, and the man, instead of judging her or feeling intimidated by her emotions, offered her comfort and the right words that made her feel better and even encouraged her to move forward. While some women are hailing this trauma-dumping/ heartfelt hearing service, others are questioning its security. Critics worry whether such setups are safe for women or could be exploited by those with malicious intent. Can these emotional taxi rides remain safe, or do they carry hidden risks? Whether this City Riders trend is safe or not, it emphasises the ever-changing reality of today's world, which is silently screaming from loneliness and longing for a deep and meaningful emotional connection.
