Boars Nest distillery opening its doors in Randolph County

HARMAN, (WBOY) — Boars Nest is a new distillery opening in Harman, West Virginia with its grand opening slated for Saturday, Feb. 1. Owned and operated by Sheldon Vance and his wife Rebecca, Boars Nest wants to give visitors an extra reason to visit Harman, a small town tucked away in Randolph County near Canaan Valley. The former electrician said he has been distilling moonshine as a hobby with his friend for some time but started plans to turn it into a family business last year. 'I wanted to turn [my garage] into something that would make us money instead of cost us money,' Vance said, referring to his personal vehicles and 'hobby toys' he enjoys working on. Despite not being officially open, Vance said the reception to the distillery from the Harman community has been great, and talked with other distillers in the area about advice and guidance on how to run his business and make the best shine possible. 'It's kind of like a family,' Vance said when asked about receiving help from other West Virginia distillers. 'Everybody's looking out for each other and like I said, no one's in it for competition, we're all here together so that really helps as well.' Boars Nest may be new but the distillery already has 15 varieties of moonshine ready for the public to get their hands on: All-Grain Straight moonshine Banana Pudding Black Cherry Corn Straight Coconut Cream Watermelon Peach Cobbler Lemon Meringue Grape Mountain Blueberry Apple Pie Mud Pie Blackberry Raspberry Drunken Peaches 'We have a lot of rave over the peach cobbler, the banana pudding, those ones there so far, our friends and stuff that we have let 'em try they really rave over them, so I believe they'll be great sellers,' Vance said. Vance also said he and his wife plan to make a few seasonal moonshines too like dill pickle, smores, pumpkin spice or peppermint. As mentioned above, Boars Nest will be holding its grand opening on Feb. 1 from noon to 8 p.m. and is located at 145 Mott St. in Harman, but remember to bring your ID if you go!
