Vehicle pursuit in Jones County results in arrest for drug possession
JONES COUNTY, N.C. (WNCT) — A vehicle pursuit in Pink Hill leads to one person being arrested for possession of drugs and another with a warrant out for their arrest. On Tuesday, May 20, 2025, at around 8:50 pm, Sergeant Shackley was patrolling the Pink Hill area of Jones County. Sergeant Shackley noticed a vehicle with an equipment violation and attempted a traffic stop. The driver of the vehicle failed to stop and sped up, which resulted in a vehicle pursuit. During the pursuit, the passenger was throwing items at Sergeant Shackley. The pursuit ended in Lenoir County, where the driver, Kellie Jo Coffee, was arrested. The passenger of the vehicle, Justin Wayne Houston, fled from the vehicle on foot. The Lenoir County Sheriff's Office, Kinston Police Department, Pink Hill Police Department, and Duplin County Sheriff's Office responded to assist the Jones County Sheriff's Office in attempting to find the suspect who fled on foot. Since the suspect was not found, warrants have been obtained against the individual, and justice will be served at a later date. The items Coffee threw from the vehicle was identified as various drug paraphernalia and felony amounts of narcotics. The suspect's vehicle was seized under NCGS 20-28.3, also known as the Run and Done Law. Coffee was charged with: Felony Flee to Elude Arrest with a Motor Vehicle. PWIMSD Methamphetamine. PWIMSD Schedule II Controlled Substance. Felony Maintain a Vehicle for Controlled Substances. Felony Conspiracy. DWLR Impaired Revocation. Resisting Public Officer. Possess Drug Paraphernalia. Exceeding Posted Speed. Rear Lamps Violation. She is being held under a $30,000.00 secured bond. Houston has active warrants for: PWIMSD Methamphetamine. PWIMSD Schedule II Controlled Substance. Man accused of firing at deputies in Bertie County, NC
BERTIE COUNTY, N.C. (WAVY) — A man has been accused of firing at deputies in Bertie County early Friday morning. Deputies with the Bertie County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to a residence in the 100 block of Weeping Mary Road around 1:20 a.m. for a report of an individual outside of a residence with a firearm. Upon arrival, deputies identified the suspect as 34-year-old Dominique Javon Thompson. He opened fire on the deputies, striking two patrol vehicles. The suspect then fled the scene in a white 2024 Hyundai Elantra. A 'be on the lookout' notification was sent out to local, state and federal law enforcement agencies in reference to the suspect and the vehicle information. Lenoir County Sheriff's Office located the Hyundai Elantra that was operated by Thompson around 9:30 a.m., but the vehicle was unoccupied. Shortly afterwards, the Kinston Police Department conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle that Thompson was the passenger in. He was taken into custody without incident. Police conducted a consent search of the vehicle and seized a firearm. Thompson was subsequently taken to Bertie County for processing and served with the following charges: three counts of assault with a deadly weapon on a government official, three counts of discharging a weapon into occupied property, two counts of assault on a law enforcement animal, two counts of damage to government property and possession of firearm by a felon. New charges filed against Kinston woman in Piggly Wiggly car crash incident
KINSTON, N.C. (WNCT) — Additional charged have been filed against the Hookerton woman who allegedly crashed her car into a local Piggly Morales, 39 years old, was originally charged with driving while impaired, injury to real property, child abuse, reckless driving, hit and run to property, failure to decrease speed to avoid accident, driving while license revoked, driving with no liability insurance, driving with an expired registration, inspection violation and child not in rear seat. The Lenoir County Sheriff's Office filed these charges after Morales allegedly ran into a Kinston Piggly Wiggly with a 10 month old child in the front seat of her car, fleeing after the accident. A 7 year old inside the store suffered from minor injuries. New charges from the sheriff's office have been filed, including child endangerment, injury to personal property, failure to report an accident with injury and failure to reduce speed. Woman charged after law enforcement say she drove through Piggly Wiggly then left the scene
KINSTON, N.C. (WNCT) — A woman was charged with multiple crimes after deputies with the Lenoir County Sheriff's Office said she crashed her vehicle into a Piggly Wiggly late Thursday, May 8, 2025. Lenoir County Sheriff Jackie Rogers stopped Stephanie Marie Morales, 39, of Kinston after law enforcement said she crashed into the Piggly Wiggly and then drove away. Sheriff Rogers said there was a 10-month-old child in the front seat of the vehicle unrestrained. A 7-year-old girl suffered minor injuries at the store. Morales was charged with: Driving while impaired Injury to real property Misdemeanor child abuse Reckless driving Hit-and-run to property, damage and injury Failure to decrease speed to avoid accident Driving while license revoked Driving with no liability insurance Driving with an expired registration Inspection violation Child not in rear seat Morales was jailed without bond. Lenoir County deputies search for arson suspect
LENOIR COUNTY, N.C. (WNCT) — Law enforcement officers with the Lenoir County Sheriff's Office are searching for a man that potentially set a fire. Deputies are searching for Charles Edward Sutton, 51 years old, after investigating a fire that occurred on West King Street in La Grange Monday. Deputies believe that Sutton intentionally set the fire. Sutton's warrant includes charges of first degree murder and first degree arson.
