Propane tank explosion closes taco stand and grocery store in Lenoir
LENOIR, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — A propane tank explosion rocked a small shopping area in Lenoir on Tuesday afternoon, damaging buildings and forcing the temporary closure of a popular taco stand and a nearby Mexican grocery store.
The Lenoir Fire Department responded to the scene at 1354 Norwood Street SW around 3:15 p.m. after two propane tanks exploded behind Taqueria El Tio Rico.
The explosion caused a fire and significant structural damage to the area.
Thankfully, no injuries were reported.
While the taco stand itself was not directly hit, the blast caused interior and exterior damage to the building it operates from. The nearby small grocery store also sustained damage, prompting both businesses to close temporarily.
Officials confirmed the cause of the explosion is still under investigation.
