Manchester United vs Aston Villa: Prediction, kick-off time, TV, live stream, team news, h2h results, odds

Manchester United bring down the curtain on a miserable campaign in a vital Premier League fixture for Aston Villa this weekend. Defeat to Tottenham in the Europa League final on Wednesday night means no trophy to salvage a disappointing season and no Champions League football to look forward to in 2025/2026. In fact, following that loss in Bilbao it will be interesting to hear the reception the players get from the Old Trafford faithful. Perhaps the one incentive for Man United is avoiding finishing lower than 16th in the table. They can still climb as high as 14th but are dependant on West Ham and Wolves failing to win their respective fixtures. On the other hand, Villa can still qualify for the Champions League as they are embroiled in a fascinating race to finish in the top five. They go into this fixture level on points with fifth-placed Chelsea but know their fate is not in their own hands - even if they win at the 'Theatre of Dreams'. Manchester United vs Aston Villa is scheduled for a 4pm BST kick-off on Sunday, May 25, 2025. The match will take place at Old Trafford, Manchester. TV channel: In the UK, the game will be televised live on TNT Sports. Coverage starts at 3pm BST on TNT Sports 1 ahead of the 4pm kick-off. Live stream: TNT Sports subscribers can also catch the contest live online via the Discovery+ app and website. Live blog: You can follow all the action on matchday via Standard Sport's live blog! Free highlights: The Sky Sports app and YouTube channel will show highlights shortly after the final whistle with Match of the Day broadcasting on BBC One at 10.30pm BST. The only positive from a Man United perspective to come from the Europa League final loss was no fresh injuries. In fact, Leny Yoro, Diogo Dalot and Joshua Zirkzee all returned from spells on the sidelines in a triple boost. Lisandro Martinez will remain sidelined and Matthijs de Ligt is a doubt after missing the last four games. Alejandro Garnacho, Kobbie Mainoo, Manuel Ugarte and Victor Lindelof will be among those pushing for starts having been named on the substitutes bench in Bilbao. Villa are without Marcus Rashford due to the terms of the forward's loan deal which does not allow him to play against his parent club. Influential midfielder Youri Tielemans is a doubt, but Jacob Ramsey is available after suspension. Wednesday night would have been a bitter pill to swallow for Manchester United football club and it is hard to see Ruben Amorim galvanising this group of players for a fixture that ultimately means nothing. Whereas Villa must win. There's an argument that Unai Emery does tend to buckle when under pressure, but he will recognise this is a perfect time to finally register a win at Old Trafford. Aston Villa to win, 2-0 Man United have fared well against Villa recently. In fact, they have won four of the last five meetings across all competitions and came back from 2-0 down to win the corresponding fixture last season. Manchester United wins: 93 Aston Villa wins: 41 Draws: 42 Manchester United to win: 11/4 Aston Villa to win: 9/4 Draw: 8/11 Odds via Betfair (subject to change).

Spurs clinched it from virtually their first opportunity - on 42 minutes. Brennan Johnson bundled in Pape Sarr's inswinging cross, with United left-back Luke Shaw also getting a touch on the way. Leny Yoro expected to start Europa League final

Follow live reaction today from Bilbao today after Brennan Johnson's first-half goal lifted Spurs to their first major trophy since 2008 Getty Images Leny Yoro is expected to start for Manchester United in this evening's Europa League final against Tottenham. The 19-year-old came off injured in the Premier League defeat against West Ham 10 days ago and it seemed unlikely he would be fit to feature from the beginning today, with Victor Lindelof being picked in recent games. But Yoro travelled with the squad and is due to be part of Ruben Amorim's backline in Bilbao. The French centre-back has made seven appearances in the Europa League this season and scored his first goal for the club in the first leg against Lyon in the quarter-final. A 4-3 win for either team, as happened in the Carabao Cup quarter-final in December, is priced at 150/1*, while an over-4.5-goals goal-fest is at 180/1, combined with 13-plus corners and nine or more cards. Looking at aggressive United midfielders Manuel Ugarte and Casemiro, the former is 13/8 to register three-plus fouls and the latter 11/10 to register two-plus, while Alejandro Garnacho to hit 5-plus shots is 11/4. *All odds courtesy of Betfair The longer Tottenham and Manchester United stayed in the Europa League this season, the earlier they stopped worrying about the Premier League. Domestic fixtures have been a write-off for several weeks for both of these teams, which has placed more and more significance on the European matches. And they have managed to come through those games largely unscathed to lock in an all-English showdown in Bilbao. It is the fourth Europa League final between sides from the same nation, after Porto 1-0 Sporting Braga in 2011, Atletico Madrid 3-0 Athletic Club in 2012, and Chelsea 4-1 Manchester United in 2019. There is a trophy on the line today as well as a place in next season's Champions League. One team will take everything, the other will have nothing to cling onto by way of consolation. Premier League This Premier League table with one game left of the season makes for stark reading for fans of both Manchester United and Tottenham. The two teams are directly above the relegation zone, only avoiding a humiliating relegation battle because of the inability of the three promoted sides. Things have to get better next season. And as my colleague Ed Mackey pointed out, if you added their points tallies together, United and Spurs still wouldn't have more than champions Liverpool. A damning statistic at the end of a dreadful domestic campaign. Reaching cup finals has not been anywhere as frequent for Tottenham in recent years as it has been for Manchester United. Their trophy drought is well documented and the reason they have just one trophy in the 21st century is perhaps because of how few and far between their final appearances have been. Today marks their first European final since they won this competition — formerly named the UEFA Cup — in 1984. 2021 League Cup final – Lost 1-0 vs Manchester City – Lost 1-0 vs Manchester City 2019 Champions League final – Lost 2-0 vs Liverpool – Lost 2-0 vs Liverpool 2015 League Cup final – Lost 2-0 vs Chelsea – Lost 2-0 vs Chelsea 2009 League Cup final – Lost 4-1 on penalties vs Manchester United after 0-0 draw – Lost 4-1 on penalties vs Manchester United after 0-0 draw 2008 League Cup final – Won 2-1 vs Chelsea (AET) – Won 2-1 vs Chelsea (AET) 2002 League Cup final – Lost 2-1 vs Blackburn – Lost 2-1 vs Blackburn 1999 League Cup final – Won 1-0 vs Leicester – Won 1-0 vs Leicester 1990 FA Cup final – Won 2-1 vs Nottingham Forest (AET) – Won 2-1 vs Nottingham Forest (AET) 1987 FA Cup final – Lost 3-2 vs Coventry (AET) – Lost 3-2 vs Coventry (AET) 1984 UEFA Cup final – Won 5-4 on penalties vs Anderlecht after 1-1 draw Community Shield not included Our man in Spain Jack Pitt-Brooke hasn't been the only one visiting a Bilbao museum today! Earlier, legendary former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson got his signature pen out... Getty Images How Ange Postecoglou will approach tonight's game is an interesting topic given Spurs' success over Manchester United this season. Three wins in all competitions sets them up nicely and should give them confidence — but Postecoglou is taking nothing for granted and has prepared his players for a tough test. 'It's a final and those kinds of things aren't important,' he said. 'If we had lost all three games, the question would be do we feel pressure because we know we haven't beaten them. I've been in this situation a few times in my career going into big games, even your form, if it's been terrible, it doesn't matter. 'What matters is how the players cope with the occasion, the importance of the game, and for both clubs you don't know how the players are going to react to such a big occasion. 'My role is to try to prepare the players in the best possible way and to prepare for Manchester United to be at their best. If you prepare that way and you go out there and play to the potential, you give yourselves an opportunity.' Getty Images Manchester United's Premier League progress has come to a grinding halt since Sir Alex Ferguson retired in 2013, but they have still made their fair share of cup finals — both domestically and in Europe. Today marks their third Europa League final in eight years while they have won the Carabao and FA Cup twice each since 2016. Here is how they have got on in their last 10 finals: 2011 Champions League final – Lost 3-1 vs Barcelona – Lost 3-1 vs Barcelona 2016 FA Cup final – Won 2-1 vs Crystal Palace – Won 2-1 vs Crystal Palace 2017 League Cup final – Won 3-2 vs Southampton – Won 3-2 vs Southampton 2017 Europa League final – Won 2-0 vs Ajax – Won 2-0 vs Ajax 2017 European Super Cup – Lost 2-1 vs Real Madrid – Lost 2-1 vs Real Madrid 2018 FA Cup final – Lost 1-0 vs Chelsea – Lost 1-0 vs Chelsea 2021 Europa League final – Lost 11-10 on penalties vs Villarreal after 1-1 draw – Lost 11-10 on penalties vs Villarreal after 1-1 draw 2023 League Cup final – Won 2-0 vs Newcastle – Won 2-0 vs Newcastle 2023 FA Cup final – Lost 2-1 vs Manchester City – Lost 2-1 vs Manchester City 2024 FA Cup final – Won 2-1 vs Manchester City Community Shield not included Getty Images This season's Europa League has presented an interesting avenue for Casemiro to re-establish himself in a Manchester United shirt. Across his time at Real Madrid, Casemiro picked up a habit for winning big trophies and coming alive in the biggest games. He knows how to win finals. The Brazilian has played in eight European finals and come away with a runner-up medal only once: in a 4-2 extra-time defeat against Atletico Madrid in the 2018 UEFA Super Cup. If we look at his record for both Real Madrid and United, and include two-legged fixtures such as the Spanish Super Cup, his resume makes for remarkable reading: 14 wins, two defeats and three Opta-defined draws (read: games which went to extra time and/or penalties). That 2018 UEFA Super Cup, 2023 FA Cup, and this season's Community Shield are the only times he has walked away from a final with a runner-up medal. Finals are matches he has a unique affinity for. GO FURTHER Casemiro and the final chapter of a renaissance in the Europa League Getty Images And Ruben Amorim also opened up on balancing the strength of his starting XI with the strength of his substitutes' bench. 'I think the best starting 11 to start the game, then is really important to have options on the bench to change the game,' he added. 'I'm not thinking about going to extra time. Of course, we have that possibility but we never think about that. 'Maybe in the final minutes, you have two substitutions, you wait for extra time and you think about the possibility, but in the beginning of the game, I just want to win the game really fast. 'But we know, like against Lyon, if we have to score three goals in six minutes, we are able to do it, especially with our fans in the stadium.' Getty Images There's a lot riding on tonight's game for both teams so Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou has his priorities — and his means of reducing pressure on his players — clear. Before they left for Bilbao, Spurs' players had a get together at the training ground, where they had a barbecue, which Postecoglou says 'was player-driven but I'd never say no to a barbecue, they didn't need to twist my arm.' They will not have forgotten the importance of the game or what comes with a win tonight, though, with a precious chance of lifting a trophy and securing Champions League football rolled into one. As for which matters most to Postecoglou? It's simple. 'It's a great prize, the trophy itself and the significance of Champions League qualification,' he said. 'What it means for every football club to get into the Champions League. 'There are the obvious benefits but also the opportunity to play against the best in the continent. The club has been in the Champions League before, it hasn't won a trophy in a long time, so that's the most important.' Getty Images A lot of the attention from a Manchester United perspective in the last few days has been on the fitness of Leny Yoro. After a shaky start to the season, the 19-year-old has established himself as a part of the club's best defence and games like tonight is where you need your best players, more than any other. The same can probably be said of Diogo Dalot who is usually an ever-present in this United line-up. Those two being fit to start tonight's game would be huge for Ruben Amorim, but he needs to make sure they are absolutely good to go before throwing them in. No doubt a couple of big decisions there for the United head coach. Getty Images Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim discussed the unexpected returns of Diogo Dalot, Leny Yoro, and Joshua Zirkzee yesterday. 💬 'They recovered quite well, they pushed, of course we have to respect the feeling of the player, we pushed a little bit because they wanted to be part of the team. 'It's a very good sign. They are limited in the minutes (they can play) but they can help us to win the game.' We'll bring you some more quotes from Tottenham's Ange Postecoglou over the next hour or so as well. Getty Images We can just imagine the conversation between Ange Postecoglou and Daniel Levy nearly 100 football matches ago at Tottenham Hotspur: 'Ange, your mission, should you choose to accept it... is to bring trophies back to Spurs.' Or something like that, anyway. And as the Australian comes up to a century of games in charge and arguably the most important of them all tonight, he has been reflecting on his tenure at the club. 💬 'It's hard to contextualise the challenges of the last couple of years. From my perspective, I came into the club with some pretty clear objectives in terms of what the priorities are for the club when I was taking over. 'I've tried as hard as I can to stick to that process of getting the club to a position where they can challenge for trophies and rejuvenate the squad and change the playing style. 'It's been a fair assignment and not without its challenges. With such a big game, there is an opportunity to fulfil at least the main task I was given, which is to bring trophies to the club.' I've landed in Lisbon and just phoned a Portuguese bar/restaurant. They have 25 or so Portuguese locals who want to watch the game. Many will be supporting United given the Cristiano Ronaldo and Bruno Fernandes connection but many will be rooting for Spurs because they're still bitter that Amorim left Sporting! Next stop for me though is the start of the World 7s tournament, where Manchester City and Manchester United women are in action tonight. Getty Images I don't know if this is an omen, or even relevant, but it's clouded over here a lot in the last few hours. It was very warm late morning but now it's not. More to follow! Getty Images Congratulations to these enterprising Manchester United supporters for successfully getting their hands on the only red flares Everton fans haven't tampered with.

Son Heung-min on Spurs bench for Europa League final against Manchester United

United boss Ruben Amorim was able to call upon Leny Yoro following a recent foot problem as anticipation started to build with fans beginning to enter San Mames. The clouds are a bit moody in Bilbao but the atmosphere around the city ahead of the #UELfinal has been decent from what I've seen — Simon Peach (@SimonPeach) May 21, 2025 For the sides languishing in 17th and 16th in the Premier League, the showpiece offers one team the chance to salvage a wretched season with silverware and Champions League qualification. Europa League success is estimated to be worth around £100million to the victor, but glory is the main focus for those that have taken all manner of weird and wonderful routes to the Basque Country. There have been predictions of as many as 80,000 fans heading to the all-English final, with the sparsity of accommodation options seeing supporters spill into the likes of San Sebastian, Santander and Vitoria. Hordes of fans piled into Bilbao ahead of the match, but the mood around the city seemed calm and upbeat following overnight reports of some clashes between opposing sets of supporters. There were few signs of issues in the bars, restaurants and public areas on Wednesday afternoon around the city, where a strong security presence was in place and roads closed around San Mames Stadium. Spurs fans have been making their way to Spain since the weekend as their side attempt to win a first trophy since the Carling Cup in 2008, and first European trophy since the 1984 UEFA Cup. Son Heung-min was part of the Tottenham side that went close to ending that drought by reaching the Champions League in 2019 and is now looking for a victory he hopes can start a new trophy-laden era. 'It's going to be a huge, huge moment for both of us and also for the boys if we win it,' the Spurs skipper said. Under-fire Ange Postecoglou is looking to inspire Spurs to victory (Andrew Milligan/PA) 'As we always say, the first step is going to be really hard, but if you win that trophy, we can change the mentality, we can change the history and hopefully we can continue to compete for another trophy.' Tottenham goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario knows the magnitude of overdue cup success despite uncertainty over the future of Postecoglou, who snapped at a suggestion he would be a 'clown' should they lose to United. 'It would be massive for the players, for the staff and especially for the fans,' Vicario said. 'We know we can create history for this football club. We know that probably next year when we walk through the corridors into the dressing room we will see some photos of us lifting that trophy, but now it is not certain. 'So, we have to keep working as best we can to try to arrive on the day as much ready as we can to create history.' United are in a similarly poor state to Spurs yet can lift a trophy for the third straight season, having won the Carabao Cup in 2023 and then last season's FA Cup under Erik ten Hag. Successor Amorim has the chance to continue that run and help kickstart a much-needed rebuild, with skipper Bruno Fernandes dreaming of lifting the Europa League aloft on Wednesday evening. 'It won't change the past, it won't affect what the past has done to us either,' the United skipper said. 'But what it can affect is the future. Bruno Fernandes was upbeat on the eve of the final (Alex Pantling/UEFA Handout) 'Obviously winning a competition gives you a lot of things. In this case you get a place in the Champions League, a lot of revenue for the club, it gets more players wanting to come to the club. 'I think that at this club it doesn't change much in that aspect because I think every player wants to play for Man United and it's a thing that will never change because the name of this club speaks for itself. 'But the main thing for us is to focus on what we have ahead of us and that is a massive final.'

Manchester United injury updates: Yoro, De Ligt and Dalot latest news and chances to play in Europa League final

Manchester United hope to salvage a dismal campaign with Europa League final glory against Tottenham Hotspur. Ruben Amorim, after a run which has seen a number of farcical moments en route to Bilbao, will hope to claim a trophy in his first season in charge of the Red Devils and, with that silverware, there is the bonus of qualification for next season's Champions League. United have been contending with a number of injuries, with their terrible Premier League form in recent weeks leaving them 16th in the table after 18 league defeats. with transfer success impacted by the result at the San Mames. Team news The main concern for United is the trio of Leny Yoro, Diogo Dalot, and Mathijs de Ligt, with Amorim stating that the former two are both fit to feature in Bilbao. The Portuguese also said that Joshua Zirkzee, ruled out for the season with a hamstring injury, is also back and fit to play. Amorim stated: 'They are limited for their minutes in the game but they can help us to win the game. They recover quite well, they push. We respect the feelings of the players but push a little bit because they want to be a part of the team.' Leny Yoro Suffered a foot injury and was taken off against West Ham, it could be a reoccurrence of an issue that gave him problems earlier in the season. Also missing against Chelsea but back in time for Bilbao. Matthijs de Ligt Suffered a knock against Brentford, not thought to be serious, but was not risked against Chelsea. He travelled to Bilbao but does not make it into the squad. Diogo Dalot Dealing with a calf injury and sidelined since the end of April, but rejoined the squad in Bilbao and will make the bench. Lisandro Martinez Out for the season with a knee injury. Joshua Zirkzee Initially ruled out for the season with a hamstring injury, but travelled to Bilbao and is apparently fit to make an impact in the final off the bench. Tottenham Hotspur XI: Vicario; Porro, Romero, Van de Ven, Udogie; Sarr, Bentancur; Johnson, Kulusevski, Richarlison; Solanke.
