Beloved St. Paul Chinese restaurant will close in December after decades in business
A family-owned Chinese restaurant that has been serving the Dayton's Bluff neighborhood for decades will be closing for good later this year.
Leo's Chow Mein, located at 1059 Hudson Road, announced the closure on Facebook Saturday.
Citing "the ending of the building lease," the restaurant says it will be permanently closed on December 25.
However, reactions from the restaurant's Facebook followers paint a clear picture of a longtime neighborhood favorite, whose unpretentious menu gave many locals their first introduction to Chinese cuisine — inspiring decades of loyal patronage.
"This place can't leave," one user said. "It's been here for at least 50 years. This is a community staple around here."
"My first oriental food experience in my memory at 5 years old in 1976 was eating your chow mein when I lived 3 blocks from Leo's," another responded. "Very sad news."
It's not clear if the business will try to find another location.
