SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – The Peace Officer Standards and Training Commission (POST) has voted to revoke the certification of two western Massachusetts police officers and not to discipline a third officer. West Springfield police seek help identifying shoplifting suspects The commission voted to decertify Springfield Police Officer Leon Davis, who they found used excessive force when shocking a woman multiple times with a taser back in 2020. They also voted to decertify former Agawam reserve police officer Matthew Hubbard for lying on an official form about previous injuries and the fact that he was receiving disability payments. Green-fingered youngsters at outstanding school set to transform their outdoor space
Green-fingered youngsters are digging deep to create their own little garden while enjoying the great outdoors. Green Fold Special School has been donated a multi-level planter which was designed by local artist Leon Davis. MedEquip4Kids bid for the planter on behalf of the school and it was funded by United Utilities. It will "enhance the outdoor space for children with disabilities", introducing them to rainwater management and recycling water for use at Green Fold, while also offering a diverse sensory experience for those with additional needs. It was unveiled during VE Day celebrations on May 8. Children also baked scones which were judged by guests - all were found to be excellent - as well as singing and signing 'You'll Never Walk Alone'. A child with the new facility (Image: United Utilities) Headteacher at Green Fold School, Lisa Walker said: 'We are exceptionally grateful to United Utilities, Mediequipuk and Leon on the design team for working with our assistant headteacher Jordanna Whittleston on funding and designing a unique gardening experience that is truly accessible to all of our children who represent those with the most complex and super special needs in the local authority. Man fined for failing to talk to fly-tipping probe
A man has been fined £440 after a council investigation into fly-tipping in Derbyshire. North East Derbyshire District Council said it began looking into an incident after finding rubbish on Bole Hill, near Chesterfield, in September last year. A notice was served on Leon Davis, of Central Drive in Brimington, under section 108 of the Environment Act 1995 in November, but the authority said he failed to respond, leading to prosecution. The 42-year-old failed to appear at Southern Derbyshire Magistrates' Court for a hearing on Monday, and as well as the fine he has been ordered to pay £1,477.96 costs and a £176 victim surcharge. Following the sentencing, district council leader Nigel Barker said: "Fly-tipping is a serious offence that harms our environment and community. "We are committed to using all available resources to prosecute offenders to help keep our district clean." Follow BBC Derby on Facebook, on X, or on Instagram.
