Saint-Étienne make Irvin Cardona move permanent

Foot Mercato understands that AS Saint-Étienne have made Irvin Cardona's (27) move to the club permanent. The Frenchman returned to Saint-Étienne, where he spent the second half of the 2023/24 season, on loan in January. He had joined Espanyol on loan at the start of last season, however, that loan was cut short by parent club Augsburg in the winter, allowing Cardona to re-join Les Verts. Advertisement Despite netting five goals in 15 Ligue 1 appearances, he could not prevent Saint-Étienne from making a swift return to Ligue 2. However, he will still make his move to the club permanent. As per Foot Mercato, ASSE have triggered the buy option included in the deal. He will therefore join in a deal worth €2.5m and sign a contract that will run until the summer of 2028. The centre-forward will be looking to guide Les Verts back into the first division next season. GFFN | Luke Entwistle

Marseille set to break attendance record with Saint-Étienne's visit

Olympique de Marseille have announced that they are set to break their attendance record this afternoon when they host AS Saint-Étienne at the Stade Vélodrome. L'Équipe adds that 66,115 supporters are expected to attend the clash between the old rivals which will outstrip the previous record that was set last March when the club were visited by Paris Saint-Germain (66,045). The Vélodrome holds a capacity of 67,000 however it will be without any Saint-Étienne supporters present for the game as Les Verts's fans have not been allowed to attend this match. This was not a surprising outcome when Marseille fans were banned from the league and cup fixtures at the Stade Geoffroy-Guichard this season. Marseille came out the victors in both of their previous meetings with Saint-Étienne this season. The two clubs faced each other twice in December with Marseille winning the Coupe de France tie 4-0 before then defeating Les Verts 2-0 in the league. GFFN | Nick Hartland
