Road trips and monthly meetings for the Island's women's groups

The Isle of Wight's women's groups have been busy. Here are the latest submitted reports. The group had a fun evening when they held their own Room 101 game. Based on the popular TV show, three contestants must describe their pet hates and try to persuade the audience to consign them to Room 101, which according to George Orwell's novel 1984, contains 'the worst thing in the world'. The three volunteers had done some excellent background research and all put forward some compelling arguments for putting slugs, potato snacks and middle lane motorway hoggers into Room 101. The group also learnt why they disliked size zero models, Freemasons and topless men...! The scores remained level at the end of the game, but everyone agreed the evening had been a great success. Upton Girls also have a thriving craft group as well as a busy social club. They are looking forward to several theatre trips, a round the Island bus trip and a hovercraft experience in the near future. Take a look at the new website for more information about the WI, at Wootton TG's contribution to the federation competition on 'transport' in which they came joint second (Image: Contributed) Members went to the Dairyman's Daughter for the latest Lesley's Ladies' Lunch. There were about 15 who went along and enjoyed the very good food and service. The following day was the long awaited competition on Transport, in which the group was thrilled to come in joint second. There were wonderful cakes and biscuits, with a raffle completing a well organised afternoon. At the monthly meet up, everyone celebrated Easter with hot cross buns and games of beetle drive. Lisa continues to organise the arts and crafts and this month the group us making owls. The April meeting was well attended. The speaker was Frank who gave an excellent talk entitled Love and Tragedy. The Federation Handicraft Competition went well with the guild coming joint third. Arts and Crafts section are continuing to meet once a month. We now look forward to the TG Together Day at the end of May to which national chair, Beryl, is attending, with raffle, entertainment and a buffet lunch to enjoy. Members from the Social Group went to The Range in Cowes for some retail therapy then enjoyed a very pleasant lunch at Gurnard Press. Next venue is the End of the Line in Freshwater and then a browse round the garden centre, and due to holidays there will be no outing in June. The Lunchers group went to Appley Manor on April 23 and had a lovely lunch with plenty of chat. At the end of May they are going to the RNLI in East Cowes to have a tour round the premises where they build many craft used by the organisation, then to The Lifeboat next door for lunch. The Coffee Morning on June 4 will be at Lynne's home. A penny pot put out each month is for contributions which at the end of the year help towards the charity, and milk bottle tops go to Ability Dogs for Young People, The raffle was won by Lynne and Rita. The next meeting at Falcon Cross Hall will be on May 21 at 10.30am, all welcome.
