Hip-hop stars Zakwe and Duncan are taking it back to the township.
The pair are bringing their dynamic energy to Langa Res Lifestyle in Durban on Saturday.
The event, titled Let's Take It Back to Ekasi, promises an unforgettable night of raw talent and township pride, and features acts such as Andile Tee, Rudeboyz, Saneristo and Mello Cue.
Zakwe, born Ntokozo Zakwe in KwaMashu, has been a cornerstone of the South African hip-hop scene since the early 2000s. Known for his powerful isiZulu lyrics and storytelling, he has consistently championed the genre's authenticity and cultural roots.
His collaborative album with Duncan, released in December 2020, showcased their blend of lyrical prowess and musical chemistry. Duncan, hailing from KwaMashu, has made significant strides in the industry with his unique sound and compelling narratives.
Speaking to TshisaLIVE, the Bathi Ngiyachoma hitmaker said he's excited to perform in his back yard. 'I'm looking forward to performing in front of the people of ekasi, that's where those streets groomed me to be this talented artist. I'll be releasing a single on June 14 but will share information in a few days' time.'
His partnership with Zakwe has been celebrated for revitalising the local hip-hop scene and bridging generational gaps within the genre.
The Let's Take It Back to Ekasi event is more than just a concert; it's a celebration of township culture and the spirit of hip-hop. Zakwe has been vocal about his mission to revive and elevate local hip-hop, emphasising the importance of community engagement and cultural pride.
Fans can expect a high-energy performance featuring hits from their collaborative album, including the standout track Kapteni, which features Kwesta and has become a fan favourite.
