Market Update As a result of the Fed's rate hikes in 2022 and 2023, inflation has come down from frothy levels post-pandemic. The general rise in the price of goods and services is trending towards the Fed's 2% goal as of late, which is good news. The higher rates that fought inflation also didn't slow economic activity enough to catalyze a recession. So far, soft landing. This, combined with recent rate cuts (half a percent in September 2024 and a quarter percent in November 2024) have led to strong stock market performance in 2024. The icing on the cake for 2024 returns was Donald Trump's victory in the U.S. Presidential Election in early November, sending major indices to all-time highs in the week following the election. Still, debates around the health of the economy and the impact of potential tariffs and corporate tax cuts remain, leaving much uncertainty around 2025. I've Had These Trousers On My Wishlist For Months—They're Finally Back In Stock
I may be a denim loyalist most of the year, but at the peak of summer, even my trusted Levi's feel like a heatstroke hazard. So naturally, I've been placing my bets on easy cotton trousers lately. Specifically, a wide-leg cotton pair from cool girl-approved label LESET. The LA-based label's Kyoto trousers have become something of a cult favourite in fashion circles since early spring, when they were spotted on an array of chic fashion editors and influencers, and obviously sold out immediately. But after months of obsessively refreshing the site every week and waiting for restock notifications, they're finally back in stock. Just one catch, dear reader: they're already flying off the virtual shelves, so hesitation is really not advised. If this is the first time you've heard of the loungewear label, rest assured that you're in good company in the brand's easy basics. LESET's minimalist loungewear boasts an impressive A-list fan club that includes Katie Holmes, Dakota Johnson, Hailey Bieber and Meghan Markle. In short, the kind of stylish icons who can turn an errand run into a street style moment, and the Kyoto trousers do exactly that. Perfect for the many heatwaves we've been promised this summer, as well as those occasional rainy spells, the trousers are made from crisp cotton and cut in a classic utility silhouette for a distinctly off-duty flavour. The drawstring waist is far from restrictive, while the slightly cropped fit and topstitched utility panels on the knees offer the illusion of length; perfect if you're on the petite side. Available in ten colours, from neutral white and navy to dusty pink and even an electric blue, I wouldn't blame you if, like me, you were tempted to buy a few pairs to round out your summer rotation. ©Instagram/@hannahelizarmstrong LESET, Kyoto Carpenter Trousers The Kyoto trousers have a kind of ease that makes them ideal for warm evenings in the pub, but with a slightly dressed-up edge that'll keep you looking polished and relaxed at brunch, and even the office. Honestly, the styling options are endless. You could keep things simple with a white tank top and trainers for the weekend, or slip into a crisp striped button-down with suede sandals for work. So long as it's slightly tighter than the baggy trousers, it's sure to be a winner. Chic, comfortable and fashion editor-approved, LESET's breezy cotton trousers tick everything on our list for summer dressing. The only thing they're not? Likely to stick around for long. So shop the popular trousers now. Alternatively, you could consider the brand's Kyoto Barrel Pants, which boast a similarly airy construction and come with front patch pockets for a bit more cargo-inspired silhouette. The Levi's X Oasis collection has landed just in time for their Manchester tour dates
Levi's has dropped its limited edition Oasis collection just in time for the band to kick off its stint of hometown tour dates in Manchester with must-have pieces to wear to the gig The long awaited Oasis tour has officially kicked off, and the band is set to play multiple shows in their hometown of Manchester, with more UK tour dates in London to follow. To coincide with their tour, Levi's just dropped the perfect range to wear to any upcoming tour dates, which features everything from band T-shirts and branded denim to a classic parka inspired by Oasis' mod style. The Levi's X Oasis collection is now available to shop exclusively in Europe, with prices ranging from £30 for the band T-shirts up to £210 for the parka jacket. There are also some pieces currently discounted via Frasers, including the denim trucker jacket which has £30 off, and the parka which has been slashed from £210 to £169, saving you £40. Inspired by Oasis' popularity in the 90s, the entire Levi's collection is inspired by the era, with archival graphics and lived-in washes for that vintage look. Even the labels have been crafted to be authentic to the era, echoing Levi's actual designs from the 90s. The band T-shirts are some of the most iconic and accessible pieces in the whole collection, priced at £30 each for short sleeves, or £40 for the long sleeve version. They've been designed with the iconic Oasis logo in Manchester City colors as a nod to the band's roots, with mod-inspired details on some. Of course it wouldn't be a Levi's collection without some denim, and the Type II Trucker Jacket is one of those pieces that you can wear again and again – not just to the tour. It has a classic relaxed fit, with a pointed colour and pocket details and a subtle Oasis logo on the front, and is priced at £170. There's also a striped shirt with a grandad collar for £80, and the pièce de résistance has to be the Levi's X Oasis Parka. Made from a soft cotton and polyester blend denim, the parka has a relaxed fit with plenty of pocket and drawcord details, and is fully insulated – so that's your winter coat sorted. Levi's isn't the only place to get your hands on some Oasis merch, though. Next has also launched a huge range of Oasis band tees, with picks for men, women, kids and even babies. At H&M you can pick up the Men's Loose Fit T-shirt for £12.99, which has a boxy fit and a small Oasis logo on the front chest. Meanwhile at ASOS you can get the ASOS DESIGN Unisex Oversized License T-Shirt With Oasis Front Print In White for £22, which comes in sizes XS to XXL with a similar relaxed fit. However the Levi's X Oasis collection is not one to be missed. You can shop the full range in sizes small to XXL now. How to buy Oasis tickets now Oasis tickets are available right now from a number of online retailers. This includes both official and resale websites. Fans will likely want to peruse Ticketmaster's wares first, as they have been touted as the original seller of the band's tour tickets. However, the online media giant has not had any tickets for some time. And, at the time of writing, only people with allocated codes can buy tickets. Regardless, here's the link: TICKETMASTER - Buy Oasis tickets here. Otherwise, resale websites are where fans ought to be looking the most. Oasis have signposted Twickets as their official resale websites, however, they have not had tickets for a very long time. As a result, fans have flocked to the likes of viagogo, Vivid Seats and StubHub instead. And, at the time of writing, some Oasis tickets are being sold for around £200 each on viagogo. Below, we have broken down all the options Oasis-lovers have to buy tickets right now. This ranges from official retailers to VIP sellers and resale websites. viagogo and resale tickets Sites such as viagogo, Stubhub, and Vivid Seats allow fans to buy resale tickets from other fans. However, it is important to note that ticket conditions often prohibit resale after initial purchase. Those tickets may not be valid for admittance to gigs. Fans intending to buy tickets for live events through resale websites should check the ticket terms and conditions, to confirm whether resale is prohibited, before they buy. Ticket terms and conditions can be checked with the original seller, such as Ticketmaster or Live Nation. If resale is prohibited, tickets bought second-hand could be voided and admission to the event refused. Here's the links: VIAGOGO - Buy Oasis tickets here. STUBHUB - Buy Oasis tickets here. TWICKETS - Buy Oasis tickets here. Finally, there are also official tickets available from VIP and hospitality-based website Seat Unique. This retailer gives fans the absolute best chance of getting involved in Oasis' tour dates this year. Disney is in our DNA
If they cannot have good drainage, let them have Disneyland? The news that there might be a Disneyland spread over 500 acres of Manesar in Gurugram has set social media afire. It's an excuse for AI-generated images of Disney castles and Mickey Mouse wandering through the office parks of Gurugram. Many Gurugram residents reeling from recent floods and past dengue outbreaks have rolled their eyes at the idea. Sanjiv Kapoor, former CEO of Jet Airways, put up pictures of wandering cows in Gurugram and scoffed: 'And you want to build a Disneyland in Haryana? Ludicrous!' Columnist Rajyasree Sen pointed at 'Manesar Hill Site' or 4,000 MT of untreated waste lying at the Sector 6 dumping site and wondered if instead of Disney's famous Big Thunder Mountain Railroad ride we would get the Big Trash Mountain ride. And given Gurugram's recent floods, it seems more suited for Water World rather than Disney World anyway. An AI reel went viral with the caption 'Disneyland in India? Chaos, paan stains, and Mickey throwing hands! Watch this wild ride!' In it, a security guard chases a man running away with Minnie Mouse tucked under his arm. Entire families with stainless steel dabbas sit down for banana leaf picnic lunches on a ride. A man in a lungi spits out a volley of red paan juice on a 'No Spitting' sign. Some would say these are unfair, just spoilsports who don't understand the spirit of Hakuna Matata because Gurugram just can't wait to be king. But in truth, it's a great idea. With the recent immigration crackdown, U.S. visas are getting harder to come by. How wonderful it would be if we could get our Disneyland selfies in India itself. This would be our version of 'If Muhammad cannot go to the mountain, the mountain will come to Muhammad'. Lending an Indian touch Each Disneyland, whether in Paris or Shanghai, comes with some unique rides tailored to local sensitivities though the brand is unmistakably always Disney. Shanghai's version of Sleeping Beauty's castle shows Chinese influences. The Paris Disneyland avoids American flags. Maybe the Indian Disneyland can have Mickey Mouse doing yoga. But it's a great lesson in the projection of soft power, something India is deeply interested in these days. Disney can offer a masterclass on how to export the idea of Americana but make it so feel-good, it does not feel like cultural imperialism. This is Americana you are happy to take a selfie with. Disney has not commented on whether this is really in the works and it's not clear whether this is Disneyland or just a Disney-like theme park. That's just a minor detail for those of us who grew up in India wearing 'Lavis' jeans because Levi's were not available. I live in Kolkata where a park has economy-version replicas of the wonders of the world from the Colosseum to Christ the Redeemer. The city is dotted with replicas of Big Ben. When the original Big Ben in London was closed for repairs, Kolkata's Little Bens tolled away merrily. Meanwhile in America No one can deny Disneyland's timeless appeal. I thought myself too cool for it in the years I lived in California. When my parents visited from India they had two requests — McDonald's burgers (that had not arrived in India yet) and Disneyland. I succumbed and took them to Disneyland and stopped for McDonald's on the way. They look so happy in the photographs, like children again, going on little boat rides for It's A Small World, and watching fireworks explode over the fairytale castle. Disney is in our DNA and there's no getting away from it. Its appeal spans generations. It is in many ways the American Dream supersized, super-sweet, candy-coloured and utterly unreal. Its motto 'Happiest place on earth' is sheer PR triumph. But in these troubled times, even Disneyland in Anaheim, California, has not been spared. U.S. vice president J.D. Vance visited recently with his family. California governor Gavin Newsom wrote on X: 'Hope you enjoy your family time, @JDVance. The families you're tearing apart certainly won't.' Newsom was referring to aggressive immigration raids conducted by federal agents, especially in Southern California. '35% of Anaheim's residents are immigrants. Disneyland doesn't run without them,' Newsom's account reminded Vance. Back to happy times Gurugram, with its housing complexes with names like Palm Springs and Malibu Heights, was always aspiring to project Americana in Haryana. Disneyland would feel right at home in it. It seems entirely fitting that in its Vishwaguru avatar, India too should claim Disneyland's tagline of being the happiest place on earth. America, torn apart by Donald Trump's culture wars and immigration raids, certainly doesn't feel like it anymore. Is ‘Quiet Western' the New Quiet Luxury?
Is quiet western the new quiet luxury? It could be according to Michelle Gass, Levi Strauss & Co. president and CEO. In the company's Q2 2025 earnings call on Thursday, the exec said the cowboy trend is evolving into a softer and subtler aesthetic. More from Sourcing Journal Best Denim Style at Paris Men's Fashion Week Levi's and Holt Renfrew Plan Popups and Activations Consumers Demand Authenticity Over Rainbow-Washing Pride Collections 'With our robust denim lifestyle offering, we're seeing consumers find that perfect pairing more and more often. Women are pairing a classic blue cut or flared jean with our simple essential rib tank or one of our textured knits inspired from our heritage. And men are wearing a classic western shirt with a Khaki XX Chino. Quiet western is perfect for the Levi's denim lifestyle aesthetic and a natural place for us to lead,' she said. Net revenues for the Levi's brand increased 9 percent globally on an organic basis, energized by a 10 percent increase in direct-to-consumer organic revenues and a 7 percent increase in wholesale. Harmit J. Singh, LS&Co. executive VP, chief financial and growth officer, said the brand generated a 'healthy mix of revenue growth with two-thirds driven by higher volume and one-third by higher AURs.' Levi's bottoms business was up 8 percent, driven by double-digit growth in women's. Men's was up mid-single digits. In terms of products, Gass said the brand's lightweight Linen+ Denim launch is seeing strong success across both men and women, while baggy bottoms continue to gain popularity. 'Ahead of the summer, we saw this trend accelerate in our short offering, which grew double digits in both men's and women's,' she said. 'With the '90s and Y2K fashion in full swing, longer and looser style shorts are in high demand. We're confident we have the right newness and innovation like the Baggy Dad Jort in place to deliver for our fans and drive this trend.' Additionally, Singh said the 578 Baggy for men performed exceptionally well in Levi's DTC channels. The brand is also seeing momentum with tops. Gass reported that Levi's tops business grew 16 percent in Q2 with acceleration across genders and channels. In Q2, Levi's opened 16 new stores that better reflect the brand's improving lifestyle assortment. Levi's direct-to-consumer continues to be an area of growth and opportunity. Sales from the channel increased 10 percent in the quarter. Increased store traffic, better conversion rates and higher AURs, are leading to growth in Levi's stores and online across all geographic segments, Gass said. However, wholesale exceeded expectations with the channel up 7 percent, posting its third consecutive quarter of growth. 'Our wholesale partners are embracing our head-to-toe offerings, broader product assortment and fashion fits. Having a strong direct-to-consumer presence and focus gives us insights to product trends, enabling both us and our customers to have the confidence to buy and fill flows for our new product offers,' Singh said. He added that the company will remain 'prudent' when it comes to wholesale as it's a channel it doesn't control. On the horizon Given the positive first half of the year, continued strong execution and momentum in our business, LS&Co. raised its top and bottom-line guidance for the year, increasing organic net revenue growth by 1 percentage point to 4.5 percent to 5.5 percent. Gass said Levi's has everything it needs to continue momentum including 'a fresh lineup of product innovation, unique and exclusive product collaborations and globally relevant partnerships.' A fourth chapter of Reiimagine, Levi's ongoing women's campaign with Beyoncé, will launch as well as a new campaign focused on underscoring the brand's relevancy and authenticity with men. Levi's will also diversify its fit portfolio with more loose and baggy styles, fresh skinny and straight silhouettes and more bootcut and western-inspired fits. Additionally, the 501 will get a performance fabric update with thermoregulating technology.
