Notre Dame wins state semifinal, advances to second straight championship game
NORMAL, Ill. (WMBD/WYZZ) — Lexi Baer scored 16 of her game-high 18 points in the second half to lead Notre Dame to a 61-35 win over Mt. Carmel in the class 2A girls basketball state semifinals at CEFCU Arena on Thursday.
The Irish (33-4) advance to play Nashville in the state title game at 3 p.m. Saturday. It's a rematch of last year's title game won by the Irish.
Notre Dame led 21-19 at halftime then exploded for 40 points in the second half. Baer, Julia Mingus and Emy Wardle hit key three-point shots in a third quarter where the Irish outscored Mt. Carmel, 20-8.
Wardle scored 15 and added four assists. Mingus finished with 10 points.
