Liberty-Eylau heading back to the state championship for third year in a row
FORNEY, TX (KTAL/KMSS) – After sweeping Iowa Park in the semi-state series, the Liberty-Eylau Leopards are heading back to the state championship for the third consecutive year, with the chance to win the title for a second time in a row. The Leopards won game one against Iowa Park in dramatic fashion on Friday night, going into the seventh inning down 2-1, but came back to win 7-2. Saturday's game was more straight to the point. Collin Evans got things going with a two RBI single giving the Leopards an early lead in the first. Then in the third, RBIs from Gabe Jarvis and Cade McCleod put Liberty-Eylau up 4-0 to win the game. 'You work real hard to get to this moment, so this is a fun one,' head coach Zach Fowler said. 'There's one more dog pile we wanna jump on and that's next Thursday. So, after we celebrate this evening, go eat good, we're gonna turn our attention to Corpus Christi, London, an unfamiliar opponent and we're gonna start prepping for them and hopefully we'll give everything we got on Thursday night and Dell Diamond.' Although the Leopards are no stranger to the title game, the feeling never gets old. 'It's 3rd time in a row but you never want to take it for granted. I mean it's not even normal because every year is a different year and this year from the start of the year to now we've worked our butt off. And now it's just one more,' senior Triston Haugh said. 'We're doing it for not only the coaches and the team, but the community and they backed us up all year so I mean that's all we can ask for.' Even for the juniors on the team who nothing but state championships, it is still a special moment. 'I don't really expect it,' junior Maddax Moore said. 'We just put in all this work and it happens and you look up and you're at the finish line.' Liberty-Eylau will play in the state title game at Dell Diamond in Round Rock on Thursday, June 5th against Corpus Christi, London. First pitch is set for 7 p.m. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. Liberty-Eylau in semi-state for third straight year — what's changed?
TEXARKANA, TX (KTAL/KMSS) — Liberty-Eylau baseball is making its third consecutive semi-state appearance, but what has changed in the last few years? 'A whole bunch,' senior Britain Pipes said. 'A whole bunch of different coaches now, a bunch of different players. There's a lot of seniors this year, usually, we don't have that many seniors on the squad,.' But faces in the dugout are not the only changes. There is a new level of maturity. 'It's just changed this year. We're trying to stay as humble as possible this year,' Britain Pipes said. 'We know not to try and look ahead. We don't want to look at the finish line or think about holding up that trophy. We're just trying to stay in the now and trying to get that first game win.' The majority of this group of Leopards have gotten the invaluable experience of being a part of a state game, no matter how big their role, since they were freshmen and sophomores. Something none of the other three teams left in the 3A-DI division have. 'I feel like I'm more experienced, I feel like that's for everybody,' senior Triston Haugh said. 'The first time we went, I mean, it was crazy just seeing everything at UT Stadium, but now, a little bit older now, a little bit more used to it, know what to expect. So it's a better feeling for sure.' While the experience is great, this is a new season and anything can happen. The Leopards are not naive to that. 'It means a lot to do it year after year, but this year is a whole different year, a whole different game, and job's not finished,' head coach Zach Fowler said. 'So right now we're focused on getting ready for Iowa Park and that'll be it. If we can get past them, we'll look up and see who's next, but right now all the focus is on Iowa Park. It's nice to be back in the Final Four, but that's not hopefully the end of the story.' Liberty-Eylau will face off against Iowa Park on Friday, May 30 at 7 pm and Saturday, May 31 at 2 pm, the third game following if necessary. All games will be played at Forney High School. Liberty-Eylau advances to the regional finals with victory over Whitesboro
PARIS, TX (KTAL/KMSS) — On Saturday, Liberty-Eylau baseball faced off against Whitesboro in the regional semifinals. Going into the day, the Leopards led the series 1-0 and was eager to sweep the Bearcats. Britain Pipes was first to get the Leopards on the board. An overthrow while stealing second allowed him to get to third, when another overthrow from Whitesboro went into the Liberty-Eylau dugout, advancing Pipes to home. The two teams were caught in a defense stalemate from that moment until the sixth inning, when Whitesboro came up with two runs and took the lead. With the threat of a game three looming, Liberty-Eylau went into the bottom of the sixth ready to do some damage. Arian Taylor got the inning started, with a two RBI single regaining the lead for the Leopards. After that, the Bearcats had no answer on the mound for Liberty-Eylau's momentum and the Leopards went on to claim the 8-2 victory. 'We talked about having a team that can win any type of game, whether it's 10-9 or 1-0. This was a different type of game and we had to find a different way to win it,' head coach Zach Fowler said. 'So, today was kind of grind it out, get a pitcher off the mound, sometimes you gotta go attack guys, but today we let them kind of throw a lot of pitches and attack the next guy.' The Leopards advance to the regional finals round where they will play the winner of Gunter and Hughes Springs. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Liberty-Eylau girls track brings home multiple titles from 3A state meet
TEXARKANA, TX (KTAL/KMSS) — In last week's 3A State Track Meet in Austin Texas, the Liberty-Eylau girls track team brough home medals in three events, placing in the top five in four. 'Pure relief of anxiety and stress and everything,' head coach Jarrick Farmer said. Chloe Ward was the first to bring home a medal, placing in first in high jump with a height of 5'6″. 'I really wanted to cry. I'm not gonna lie. I was like 'oh my god I just won a state title,'' Ward said. 'At first it was nerve racking, I was a little nervous, I was real scared, there was a lot of tall, tall, tall girls and I was like oh they finna out jump me, but I was just thinking about getting explosive and getting up.' The 4×200 meter relay made up of Lanijah Welch, Jada Stovall, Kaydence Stephens, and Z'Ryen Banks won first place in the event. 'Honestly it meant everything to me, especially as a sophomore,' Stovall said. 'Last year we came so close we didn't make it out of regionals and for us to go to state this year is amazing.' Stephens, Stovall, Banks, and Brailey Stewart placed in second in the 4×100 meter relay. Banks also came in fourth in the triple jump event. 'It feels good to me, through all the hard work days, all the rain,' Banks said. And it took a lot of hard work from the Lady Leopards to achieve their goals. 'Like we say, winning knows your secrets,' Farmer said. 'Meaning that, the things you do up until that point allow winning to choose you. It's not you, it's what you do.' Being such a young team of mostly sophomores with a first-year head track coach, the Lady Leopards are already excited to get back to work for next season. 'Next year, we're coming back and we going even harder, breaking records for real,' Stovall said. And hope to make the Texarkana community proud once again. 'Things like this brings the community together in more ways than one, more than we can understand.,' Farmer said. 'You never know what that meant to each individual kid.'
