KUDAT: Sabah Parks and its partners have made history by planting 12,000 coral fragments at Tun Mustapha Park, earning recognition from the Malaysia Book of Records (MBOR). Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Seri Christina Liew officiated the award ceremony on Monday, celebrating the achievement as part of the park's 9th anniversary at Tun Mustapha Hall here.
Advertisement She credited the success to the collaborative efforts of over 500 participants - including divers, local communities, NGOs, and private entities - who completed the feat in just four days. Liew said the initiative supports Malaysia's biodiversity policies and Sustainable Development Goals, including climate action and ocean protection, while urging that it be followed through with long-term conservation strategies. Tun Mustapha Park, the largest multi-use marine park in Malaysia, now protects over 528 species of fish and 250 coral species across more than 898,000 hectares, thanks to years of science-based conservation and local community participation. * Follow us on Instagram and join our Telegram and/or WhatsApp channel(s) for the latest news you don't want to miss. * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news?
