Rio flags off lighthouse project in 9 schools
Dimapur: Nagaland CM
Neiphiu Rio
on Wednesday virtually laid the foundation stones and launched the Lighthouse School Complexes (LSCs) initiative in nine schools across the state.
Speaking during the programme in Kohima, Rio expressed happiness at the progress of the LSCs under the Nagaland Education Project - The Lighthouse (NECTAR), adding that the education sector was undergoing significant reforms.
Commending the school education department and the lighthouse (NECTAR) project for their innovative work, Rio said the aim was to transform classrooms and teaching methods, reforming the entire education ecosystem in schools. Emphasising on the importance of primary schools, which lays the foundation for students, Rio said the new initiatives will help students perform and compete with others from within and outside the state.
The LSCs are envisioned as model schools, with all necessary facilities required, to function as hubs of academic excellence.
Under the project, one LSC each will be developed in 16 districts, with the total cost of construction estimated to be Rs 198.57 crore. The LSCs will be centres of holistic learning, fostering inclusivity, strong community engagement and constant innovation, thriving on local knowledge of the communities. They will be economically and ecologically sustainable and also promote an evidence-based education system.
