Manchester City confirm exits of three assistant coaches in backroom shake-up
Lillo and Dominguez will both leave the Etihad Stadium when their contracts expire this summer, while their fellow Spaniard Vicens has been appointed head coach at Portuguese side Braga. City said in a statement that Lillo, who first arrived as manager Pep Guardiola's number two in 2020, left in summer 2022 to become head coach of Al-Sadd and then rejoined as assistant in 2023, 'expressed a desire to return home to Spain'. Dominguez was appointed when Lillo began his second spell at the club, while Vicens joined in 2017, helped lead the under-18s to FA Youth Cup glory in 2020 and has been part of Guardiola's staff for four years. City said the trio's replacements 'will be announced in due course' and added: 'Everyone at Manchester City wishes Juanma, Inigo and Carlos the very best and thanks them for their contributions to a hugely successful period for the club.' Guardiola's side ended this season without a major trophy for the first time in eight years, but secured Champions League football by finishing third behind Premier League winners Liverpool and Arsenal.

Lillo, Inigo Dominguez and Carlos Vicens are all leaving City and will not go to the Club World Cup, with Guardiola yet to confirm who will join him in the dugout in the United States. Vicens, who has been at City for seven years, is going to take up his first managerial job at Portuguese club Braga, where he will replace the former Sheffield Wednesday head coach Carlos Carvalhal. Lillo, whose contract ends this summer, has spent two spells alongside Guardiola but said he wanted to return to his native Spain, rather than extending his stay in England. The 59-year-old was such a major influence on Guardiola that the Catalan joined Mexican club Dorados Sinaloa to play for him. And Guardiola brought Lillo to City in 2020. After two years, he left to manage Al Sadd in Qatar before returning to the Etihad Stadium a year later. Dominguez, another Spaniard, has worked with Lillo at Al Sadd and Qingdao Huanghai before joining City.
