Nearly 1.3 million Ford F-150 trucks investigated over potential transmission issue, NHTSA says
Federal safety regulators are investigating a potential issue affecting nearly 1.3 million Ford F-150 pickup trucks after receiving more than 100 consumer complaints about transmission shifting to a lower gear without warning. The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration announced Monday that regulators have received 138 complaints about F-150 vehicles in model years 2015-2017 regarding an unrequested transmission downshift that allegedly causes the vehicle to decelerate rapidly. Some of the complaints also allege the spontaneous downshift causes their rear wheels to temporarily lock, seize or skid increasing the risk for crash and injury, the NHTSA reported. The probe is specific to 2015-2017 F-150 vehicles with 6-speed transmission, according to Ford Motor Company spokesperson Maria Buczkowski, who told USA TODAY the auto manufacturer is "working with the agency to support its investigation." The NHTSA said a preliminary evaluation is currently underway into the issue that will determine whether the "scope and severity" of the safety issues warrant an official recall. The investigation comes as the company recalled nearly 50,000 vehicles Ford and Lincoln vehicles due to a possible backup camera that was improperly repaired under a previous recall. The backup camera video output may fail in 2020-2023 Ford Explorers and Lincoln Aviators as well as 2020-2022 Lincoln Corsairs, according to the NHTSA. Ford also issued two recalls after incorrect fixes to previous recalls. Nearly 13,000 vehicles from the 2021 to 2024 Bronco Sport and 2022 to 2023 Maverick may have body and power train control modules that may possibly fail to detect a change in the 12-volt battery state of charge. More than 2,250 are recalled due to incorrectly repaired 2021-2022 Edge vehicles that may cause the rearview camera to display a blank or distorted image while in reverse, according to the NHTSA. Dealers must update the software without charge and mail notification letters by April 24. Read more about these official recalls here. Ford Issues Another Recall For Already Recalled Cars
Read the full story on The Auto Wire Ford just can't seem to catch a break lately when it comes to recalls as the company is again recalling already recalled cars to fix what was originally supposedly repaired. No, you didn't misread that: Ford is issuing a recall to fix vehicles which were previously recalled, because the first round of work apparently didn't correct the we covered before, Ford had a problem with the rearview camera on certain SUVs. Out of those which were fixed before, just under 50,000 are being recalled again because they were 'repaired incorrectly' according to a notice from NHTSA. The vehicles recalled again are certain 2020 to 2023 Ford Explorers/Lincoln Aviators and 2020 to 2022 Lincoln Corsairs. In those vehicles, the rearview camera can suddenly stop working, meaning drivers won't be able to see behind their SUVs as well while reversing. This time around, the fix involves dealers updating the Image Processing Module software. In other words, it's not a problem with the cameras or wiring but instead is a software issue. In the previous recall, Ford Super Duty trucks were included. Why they don't need a software update like the SUVs isn't clear, but we hope this is the end of this reverse camera problem. But it's worth noting 2021 to 2022 Ford Edges were recalled for a similar problem not too long ago. Sadly, another Ford recall was issued at the same time as the one to fix the supposedly fixed rearview camera problem. This one involves a fault between the 12-volt battery system and control modules on 2021 to 2024 Bronco Sports and 2022 to 2023 Mavericks. The bad news is that problem can result in a sudden loss of drive power, possibly leading to a crash. Just under 13,000 vehicles are included in the recall. We're hopeful Ford will get its ducks in a row and what seems like excessive recalls, including those issued to correct previous recalls, come to a close. Tesla, Ford, Lincoln among over 120,000 vehicles recalled: Check car recalls here
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration issued multiple recalls last week, including notices for nearly all Tesla Cybertrucks. Are you looking to see if any recalls were issued on your vehicle? If the car isn't listed below, owners can check USA TODAY's automotive recall database or search NHTSA's database for new recalls. The NHTSA website allows you to search for recalls based on your vehicle identification number, or VIN. Here's what you need to know about the vehicle recalls published by NHTSA from March 17 to March 23. Tesla recalled over 46,000 Cybertrucks for a trim panel that may detach from the vehicle. The recall covers Cybertrucks built from November 2023 through Feb. 27. The recall is the eighth of the year for the vehicle and comes at a time when Tesla owner Elon Musk is burning through brand equity with his ongoing role in the Trump administration as the face of the Department of Governmental Efficiency. Tesla is to replace the trim panel free of charge and notification letters are to be sent May 19. Affected vehicles: 46,096 Ford Motor Company recalled certain Ford and Lincoln vehicles as they may have a backup camera that was improperly repaired under a previous recall. The backup camera video output may fail in the recalled vehicles, according to the NHTSA. The recalled vehicles include 2020-2023 Ford Explorers and Lincoln Aviators as well as 2020-2022 Lincoln Corsairs. Dealers are to update the software in the vehicles free of charge and owner notification letters are to be mailed April 24. Affected vehicles: 49,399 Ford issued two other recalls instigated by incorrect fixes to previous recalls this week. The automaker recalled almost 13,000 2021 to 2024 Bronco Sport and 2022 to 2023 Maverick vehicles that may have body and power train control modules that may fail to detect a change in the 12-volt battery state of charge. Dealers are to recalibrate the modules free of charge and affected owner notifications are to be sent April 24. The Detroit stalwart also recalled over 2,250 incorrectly repaired 2021-2022 Edge vehicles. A software error in the vehicle may cause the rearview camera to display a blank or distorted image when it is in reverse, according to the NHTSA. Dealers are to update the software for free and affected owners are to be sent letters April 24. Affected vehicles: 15,123 Ford also recalled certain 2025 trucks as the steering column shifter may have been improperly welded and detach from the steering column. The recall covers Super Duty F-250, F-350 and F-450 trucks. Dealers are to inspect the steering column serial numbers and replace the steering column as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters are to be sent April 24. Affected vehicles: 11,745 This article originally appeared on USA TODAY: Check car recalls: Tesla, Ford among over 120K vehicles recalled
