Ayush Department holding programmes in run-up to International Yoga Day in Shivamogga

The Department of Ayush is organising various programmes in the run-up to the 11th International Yoga Day to be celebrated on June 21. Programmes were being organised in educational institutes to spread awareness on the importance of yoga. This year's theme is 'Yoga for One Earth, One Health'. The officers are promoting best practices to maintain good health, including Y-Break, a five-minute yoga protocol designed by the Ministry of Ayush to help working professionals de-stress, refresh, and refocus during the working hours. Lingaraj S. Hindasagatti, the district Ayush officer, told The Hindu that programmes were already organised in two colleges on Wednesday and Thursday. Many more such events would be held in the lead-up to the mega event. 'We are expecting a turnout of more than 1,000 people for the International Yoga Day celebrations. The event will start at 6.30 a.m.,' the officer said. The department has started five wellness centres in rural areas in the district. These centres are promoting yoga among the rural public. Dr. Hindasagatti said that the doctors and yoga trainers at the centres had been actively engaging the rural public in the activities. Many people had been visiting the centres daily, as these activities had impacted their health positively, he said. The centres are located at Purappemane and Hartal in Hosanagara taluk; Maidolalu and Hanumanthapura in Bhadravathi taluk; and at Salur in Tirthahalli taluk.
