How to Find Out the Age of Your Current Phone Before Buying a New One
Our phones are such an integral part of our lives that it can sometimes feel like we've had them forever. And as news about possible tariffs on phones and technology loom, you might be wondering if you've held onto your device for too long, and whether you should consider buying a new one. No matter what your plans are, you are going to need to know how old your phone is when selling it or trading it in for an upgrade, as the amount of credit you may receive towards a new device varies based on how old it is. Or maybe there's a new software update and you're not sure if your phone is compatible with it, potentially making it more vulnerable to security threats or just more sluggish overall. It's also useful to know how old your phone is to find out if it's still under warranty, and also if it's eligible to extend it. In some cases, knowing how old your phone is can help you determine if your phone is capable of running certain applications or games. Whatever your reason may be, there are a few ways to find out your phone's age. The iPhone 12 Mini and its box. CNET Check the box If you still have the box your phone came in, that's probably the easiest way to find out when your phone was made. There's often a sticker that tells you the device's exact manufacturing date. Check your Settings Another way to find out your phone's age is to check its settings. With an iPhone, you select Settings, go to General and then tap About. With an Android, you tap Settings and then select About Phone. You'll then see general information about your phone, such as its model name, model number and serial number. Just knowing your phone's model name is enough to get a rough estimate of how old it is. For example, if I know that I own an iPhone 13, then I can look the model name of the phone online and discover that the phone was released in September 2021. That means it is roughly four years old as of 2025. The same can be done for Android phones. You can also check for the date of your last security update, which could be especially helpful if you aren't sure if your phone is still getting them. Each phone's serial number can give you clues as to when the phone was made, though since manufacturers have different ways of encoding and deciphering the serial number, it can be a little complicated. If you want to do a bit of your own sleuthing, you can look up your phone's information online to see if there's a serial number manufacturing code guide for it. With iPhones, you can use the serial number to look up specific information on when it was purchased and if it's still under warranty. Go to enter in the serial number, solve a captcha, hit submit and you'll see the purchase date of your iPhone as well as if it's still under warranty. Find the receipt While finding the phone's receipt might not be able to tell you how old it is, it's still useful if all you want to do is find out when it was purchased and if it's still under warranty. You might also need this proof of purchase when filing a phone insurance claim in the event your device needs a repair, gets lost or is stolen. That's why we usually recommend keeping email receipts for your important purchases, or at least taking a snapshot of a paper receipt.

You Can Now Buy Nike's $900 Workout Shoes for Compression and Heating
Those workout shoes with compression and heating that Nike and Hyperice showed off at CES 2025 earlier this year weren't just a concept. The Hyperboot is now available to buy online in North America, so they're within reach, as long as you're willing to spend $899. The high-tops, which Nike and Hyperice call a wearable much like your smartwatch, help your feet warm up before a workout, and then recover after it. The shoes do this with heating and air-compression massage technology, taking the idea of heating pads and compression socks and making them mobile. "You can definitely feel the heat in here," CNET former mobile senior writer Lisa Eadicicco said when she had the chance to try these workout shoes on in January. She walked across a demo room in Las Vegas wearing the fancy footwear to test out the compression and heating features. The boots massage and compress your ankles and feet, and in CNET's test, we could especially feel the heat around the ankles. The boots come in five sizes: S, M, L, XL and XXL.

Best Google Pixel Phone to Buy in 2025
Google expanded its smartphone lineup for the better with the Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro XL. These Pixel phones still have great cameras and run on Android 15 but are largely a platform for Google's Gemini AI assistant. Google also has the affordable Pixel 8A, which is just $449 and earned a CNET Editor's Choice Award. And then there's the Pixel 9 Pro Fold, which at $1,799 is the most expensive Pixel Google sells -- but it does unfold into a large 8-inch screen, which is great for watching YouTube videos and playing games. It can be tough to know which Google phone will work best for your specific needs. That's why we've pulled together the top Pixels currently on sale to help. Read more: Best Phone to Buy in 2025 The Pixel 9 Pro and 9 Pro XL sit at the top of Google's phone lineup, with its Tensor G4 processor, fantastic cameras and a host of AI skills. Gemini Advanced is truly amazing, but in our testing, there were some hiccups. One thing to look out for is price. The Pixel 9 Pro is a new, smaller version with a 6.3-inch screen and a $999 price tag. The 6.8-inch Pixel 9 Pro XL, while it has a new name, is for all intents and purposes the successor to last year's Pixel 8 Pro. Like the Pixel 7, the Pixel 7A runs on Google's Tensor G2 processor, meaning it has many of the same photo editing and language translation features as its pricier sibling. The Pixel 7A's 64-megapixel camera also takes excellent photos that rival the Pixel 7's in quality. We still like the Pixel 7, but the Pixel 7A's lower price makes it a better deal for most people. Opt for the Pixel 7 only if you want a slightly larger screen and are willing to pay the extra $100 for it. Otherwise, the main differences between the Pixel 7 and 7A come down to the former's more durable build, slightly faster charging and its ability to wirelessly charge compatible accessories. The Pixel 7 also has a larger camera sensor that's more sensitive to light, according to Google, but CNET's Lisa Eadicicco didn't notice much of a difference. Read our Pixel 7A review. See at Amazon Deciding which Pixel phone is best for you will likely come down to how much you're willing to spend. As with anything, the more cash you splash, the better features you'll get. The Pixel 9 Pro is the most expensive of the main range (excluding the Fold) and as a result, it comes with the best camera system. If photography isn't important to you, you can save yourself some money and look instead toward the base Pixel 9 or the more affordable Pixel 8A. The Pixel 8A has the same processor as the 2023 Pixel 8 Pro, so you can expect good overall performance, but its dual rear camera is aimed more toward those of you simply wanting to take the odd snap of your kid on the beach, rather than those looking for Instagram stardom. If you want the most cutting-edge piece of tech in your pocket, the Pixel Fold's foldable display certainly makes it stand out in the range. You'll pay a hefty price for this brand-new technology, meaning it's not a phone for everyone to consider. Every phone on this list has been thoroughly tested by CNET's expert reviews team.
