Countywide polling program backed by El Paso County commissioners
EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — The El Paso County Commissioners Court approved a resolution on Monday, March 24 supporting the continuation of the Countywide Polling Place Program. This program allows voters to cast their ballots, similar to early voting, at any voting center on Election Day. 'Vote centers have been popular among El Paso County voters since first used in the November 2020 Presidential Election,' said Lisa Wise, El Paso County elections administrator. 'El Paso County voters have come to rely on the convenience and choice that the Countywide Polling Place Program offers. In our most recent Presidential Election, 60% of voters who voted on Election Day chose to vote outside their precinct. That's an increase from 27% in the November 2020 Presidential Election,' Wise added. The program also allows voters with disabilities to cast their ballots at a vote center that best suits their needs, the County said in ints news release. The resolution further supports the use of electronic pollbooks, emphasizing that eliminating them would limit transparency and hinder the ability for voters, parties, and candidates to perform their own audits and reconciliation during elections, the County Elections Department said. 'The El Paso County Commissioners Court supports the continued use of countywide polling places and electronic pollbooks, recognizing their importance in making voting more accessible, secure, and efficient for all residents,' the resolution states. 'It would be devastating if the program were discontinued, creating mass confusion across the County. Our office has received positive feedback since the introduction of the program, and voters love the convenience of voting at a location of their choice, whether it's located near their place of employment, favorite shopping spot or their home,' Wise added. El Paso County Elections Department honored for website — once again
EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — For the sixth straight year, the El Paso County Elections Department is being honored for its website by the League of Women Voters of Texas. Once again, the County Elections Department has received an 'Outstanding' rating in its 2024 website review done by the League of Women Voters, which is a nonpartisan group that advocates for voter participation and voter information. Out of all 254 Texas counties, only 61 counties received this ranking, according to the El Paso County Elections Department. 'The League evaluates election website based on quality, accuracy, and accessibility of information available to voters. This recognition underscores the department's dedication to providing transparent, accurate, and accessible election information to El Paso County voters,' read a news release. 'We are excited that our continued efforts have contributed to this year's recognition and that we've maintained 'Outstanding' ranking year after year. The added features on our revamped website reflect our commitment to making the election process easier and more accessible to voters,' said Lisa Wise, El Paso County elections administrator. The department announced the launch of its newly revamped elections website in August 2024. The updated website offers El Paso voters a 'more user-friendly experience, with improved functionality and a range of interactive tools,' the County Elections Department said. The County Elections Department said its revamped website includes the following tools with their descriptions of each: • My Voter Dashboard: A personalized tool where users can find their voter registration status, view their voting history, see a personalized sample ballot, and check eligibility for upcoming elections. Improved Accessibility for our Disabled Community: The new accessibility widget allows users to adjust font size, contrast colors, and other features to meet individual needs. • Interactive Voting Place Locator: A new search tool helps voters find the nearest Early Voting Location and/or Election Day Vote Center by providing their zip code. Results will be narrowed within the interactive Google Maps. The department said it partnered with El Paso-based company Hello Amigo nine years ago to ensure that the website remains current, secure, and easy to navigate, providing accurate information and resources for all voters.
