Neighbours 'threw bricks' at dog as it attacked little girl in street

Neighbours stepped in to help a little girl as she was attacked by a dog. Emergency services were called to Dulas Green in Kirkby, where police were called shortly before 6pm on Thursday, May 29. It followed reports two people had been bitten by a dog. A girl, aged seven, suffered bite injuries to her arm and leg and a 22-year-old woman suffered puncture wounds to the leg, arm and hand. Both have been taken to hospital for treatment for their injuries which are not believed to be life threatening. The dog, believed to be a Staffordshire Bull Terrier, was seized by police. He said one of the girl's managed to get away up his path, however the other was attacked by the dog. Speaking to the ECHO, he said: "When we looked back, the dog had actually got one of the girl's and pulled her to the ground. I ran over then and my wife threw bricks at the dog, which you can see smashed on the ground, and they just bounced off the dog's head. "I ran to get a brush and by that time it already had a few bites. By the time I got the brush and got it away it was over [the road]." The man said another neighbour came out to help and the dog reportedly attacked him and his daughters, with one of his daughters also suffering from bite wounds. He added: "[The neighbour] got the dog to the ground and he was holding it down. Then I ran in [the house] to get a cage and I assembled the cage and said 'we've got to get this dog in the cage or it's going to get out'. We then managed to get it in." The man described the dog as "very powerful and had big jaws". He added: "You read about these things and think 'Jesus Christ' but don't expect it on your doorstep." Dulas Green was cordoned off by police when the ECHO arrived at the scene this evening. Forensic officers later arrived in the evening and were seen taking photographs for evidence. At the height of the incident, an air ambulance was seen landing on greenery close to the scene. One neighbour said around 15 police cars also attended and two ambulances. Police said enquiries into the incident remain ongoing. Liverpool to bask in sunshine as temperatures set to rise

The Met Office has predicted sunny weather for Liverpool today and it looks like it's set to stay. Forecasters said today, Thursday, April 24, will be sunny "changing to partly cloudy by night time" in Merseyside. Temperatures will reach highs of 18C and lows of 7C. The Met Office added some coastal regions will see almost unbroken sunshine, with some sea breezes developing but winds remaining "generally light". It will also feel warm in the sunshine and tonight is also predicted to be a warm evening. The Met Office said: "A fine evening with some late sunshine, then remaining dry overnight with lengthy clear periods. Chilly, but staying frost-free. Minimum temperature 5C." Friday will be bright with sunny spells through the morning, but set to turn cloudier during the afternoon. Temperatures will reach highs of 16C, according to the Met Office. Liverpool is set for even more warm weather as temperatures are expected to reach 21C for three days next week. Forecasters predict temperatures will increase again to 21C by Monday, April 28 where it's expected to remain that way until Wednesday, April 30. While next Monday is expected to offer "clouds and sunshine", Tuesday and Wednesday are forecast to be sunny all day, with a 20% chance of precipitation. Looking ahead to next week, the Met Office said: "Most likely starting off widely fine with sunny spells, following the clearance of early morning mist and fog. This most likely in the south, whilst in the north there's a greater chance of more cloud which may take some time to clear. ‌"There's a small chance that fine and very warm weather could extend right across the country over the following days, but it's more likely that cloud/rain in the northwest will sink southeast introducing more changeable and cooler conditions for a time mid-week. "It then becomes roughly equal chances that we see a resumption of mainly fine and dry conditions versus a continuation of more changeable weather with a mixture of rain and drier interludes." 'Sunny intervals' for Easter Sunday in Liverpool says Met Office

The weather is set to be brighter for Easter Sunday in Liverpool. The Met Office said it will be "generally drier" today, Sunday, April 20, with "sunny interludes". It comes after periods of rain on Saturday. Temperatures will reach highs of 16C and lows of 8C, warmer than the previous few days in Merseyside. However, forecasters said it will be a "changeable picture" into next week with bright or sunny periods interspersed with showers, heavy at times. Deputy Chief Meteorologist Steven Keates said: 'The low will pull away to the south on Saturday, although the speed and time of the clearance is rather uncertain at the moment. Some rain may linger across parts of the west/southwest but elsewhere, many parts will enjoy some sunny spells, with light winds and temperatures around average. Cloud amounts will vary, but most places should see some bright or sunny spells at times. Parts of the far south and west may remain cloudier with a few showers around. "Temperatures look generally close to the seasonal average. Things probably turn a little more unsettled again on Monday, with outbreaks of rain/showers in the south and west, tending to spread northwards and perhaps becoming heavy at times, though there is currently a lot of uncertainty in the details.' The Met Office added that "confidence remains low in the details for next week", but at the moment southern areas are more likely to remain rather changeable with further showers, while more northern parts of the UK could see the best of the drier weather, albeit with some chilly nights. For its UK long range forecast, the Met Office said: "Many areas probably starting this period on a rather showery note, with central and southern parts of the UK more likely to see the heaviest and most frequent showers. "These will likely be quite slow-moving with the chance of thunder in places. With time, high pressure is expected to become more dominant across the UK, but the shower risk may persist, more likely further to the south, at least towards the end of April. "Given often light winds and for some, a fair amount of sunshine, it should feel pleasantly warm by day, though areas subject to onshore winds and perhaps also most cloud, especially North Sea coasts, may remain somewhat cooler. Some chilly nights remain likely, especially where skies are clear." Good Friday weather: Rain for most of the day in Liverpool says Met Office

Merseyside is set for mostly rain this Good Friday. According to the Met Office's weather forecast rain will be in place from 8am today, Friday, April 18, to 11pm this evening. The heaviest rainfall will be between 2pm and 5pm, with temperatures reaching highs of 13C and lows of 8C. Forecasters said temperatures are up a little from Thursday, however "the feel" is set to be tempered by "blustery winds." Tonight is also set to be a wet evening, with rain heavy at times. This is set to continue for much of the night with occasional drier spells. There will be gusty winds throughout the night also. Some areas may experience near dry conditions all weekend, whilst others may see heavy rain. 'We are keeping a close eye on an area of low pressure which sinks away to the south on Friday. This could bring with it some heavy, and possibly even disruptive rain for parts of southwest England, and also parts of Northern Ireland and south Wales. "This will bring the potential for some difficult travelling conditions, with a lot of spray on the roads, and it's important people keep an eye on our forecast as things evolve over the coming day or so.' On Saturday, it will be "damp and breezy" to begin with in Merseyside, however the rain is set to fade during the day. It is set to remain largely cloudy with limited brighter spells possible for the afternoon. Steven added: 'The low will pull away to the south on Saturday, although the speed and time of the clearance is rather uncertain at the moment. Some rain may linger across parts of the west/southwest but elsewhere, many parts will enjoy some sunny spells, with light winds and temperatures around average.
