NOTES AND QUOTES – GOLF CENTRAL LIVE FROM THE MASTERS ON GOLF CHANNEL (FINAL ROUND)
'This was the wildest day that I've ever seen in the history of major championship golf. We may never see another day like this in the history of the game.' – Brandel Chamblee 'I'm delighted for Rory. I know that he's had a lot of pressure on him. He's had the world on his shoulders. That was wonderful to see him win. When he had to make a shot, he made it.' – Jack Nicklaus 'I think it's a different Rory. I think it's an evolution of Rory. I don't think he's done winning majors this year. He's got some great chances to add to it.' – Paul McGinley STAMFORD, Conn. – April 13, 2025 – Golf Central Live From The Masters concluded its comprehensive coverage surrounding the 2025 Masters with post-round reaction and analysis on GOLF Channel following the Final Round, as Rory McIlroy defeated Justin Rose on the first playoff hole to win the 2025 Masters Tournament and become just the sixth player in history to secure the career Grand Slam. Rich Lerner, Brandel Chamblee, and Paul McGinley anchored Live From The Masters post-round coverage on GOLF Channel. Notable guests on tonight's Live From on GOLF Channel included fellow Grand Slam winner and six-time Masters Champion Jack Nicklaus and Live From analyst and McIlroy's putting instructor Brad Faxon. On Rory McIlroy (-11, Champion) Jack Nicklaus: 'I'm trying to figure it out. I've never seen a tournament where I've seen so many good shots and so many bad shots and so many changes of this and that. I'm delighted for Rory. I know that he's had a lot of pressure on him. He's had the world on his shoulders. That was wonderful to see him win. When he had to make a shot, he made it. You look at the shot at 15 – the shot at 17 – just remarkable then he turns right around and hits a shot like he hit at 13, and I'm sitting there saying, 'What are you doing?'...the first time around on No. 18, I told Barbara, 'I don't think he's going to make this putt.'...this will take the world off his shoulders and I think you'll see a lot more great golf out of Rory McIlroy.' Nicklaus on McIlroy's play laying up on No. 13: 'I thought it was the right play. The only way to lose the tournament was to put the ball in the water and do something dumb. He waited one more shot to do that. I thought it was the right shot because he should have made 4 ½ - four or five and that's fine. I couldn't figure out why some of the shots that were played were played, but it takes a really talented player to win with some of the shots that he hit. Four double bogeys (for the week) and to win the golf tournament is incredible, the talent he has is enormous.' Chamblee: 'This was the wildest day that I've ever seen in the history of major championship golf. We may never see another day like this in the history of the game. I would call this the most bipolar round of golf that I have ever seen. Your Masters Champion made a double bogey and three bogeys today on the second saw the highs and lows right from the get-go and right to the end.' McGinley: 'I loved the competitive nature and how it was all unfolding, and the bounce back that he what sport is about. As much as you are emotionally attached to someone winning, you also want to see how they're going to deal with the pressure and the situation, and I think we got a lot of answers about the character of Rory McIlroy human element of it was huge for me you're out there, you're beating yourself up when you make a character he showed to reset and hit the big shots when he needed them.' McGinley: 'I think it's a different Rory. I think it's an evolution of Rory. There is mental resilience there that might not have been there. He's got strategies, he digs deep, and he can win when he's not right on on a path to maybe win more. Now that he's climbed Everest, does he lose a little bit? When you reach something you've desired so much, you kind of I don't think so. I think he's going to keep going. I've said if he'll win one major, he'll win three or four. I don't think he's done winning majors this year. He's got some great chances to add to it – maybe a double, a triple, or maybe even a Grand Slam this year? How about that (laughs)?' Chamblee to McGinley: 'Okay, now you're getting giddy (laughs).' Faxon: 'A day like this doesn't start today. It's years that go into it. Lucky enough to meet Rory seven years ago on the putting greet late on a Monday at Bay Hill, didn't know him very you see on TV is not even close to the person he is off camera, a gentleman, a family man and one of the best golfers I've ever seen in my life...I was thinking as a player and a fan, 'He's just got to get by No. 13.'...he hit it in the water, and it probably provided the greatest drama I've ever seen in sport in my entire life...I was on the course early and I wanted to feel what it was like out there, and it was mayhem.' Faxon on the propensity for McIlroy to pull putts under pressure: 'There are three things, and it comes under pressure more than a casual round of golf. I like what we've figured out and there are only a couple of things we have to look at. One is setup, usually the relationship between his right arm and left arm. Sometimes his right arm gets a little high and the clubhead tends to go out straight and too square, shut, and then he's in nowhere work a lot on contact. Middle of the ball on middle of the face. When he gets nervous, he hits a little bit low on the face. There were a few of those that hit there without conviction today. Pressure does that. I can't imagine the amount of pressure he felt have a routine. If you get out of sorts, start over. He did it a couple of times today...I can't imagine that putter would ever feel heavier than it did for Rory McIlroy today and I can't imagine what he felt over that last putt today.' Chamblee on McIlroy's double bogey on No. 13: 'One of the more bizarre holes I have ever seen. He had 239 yards to the hole – chose to lay up! Laid up! And then hit a wedge into the creek! Not 20 feet to the left.' Chamblee: 'I've never seen Rory play a round of golf with so many big misses and then so many monumental shots mixed in with those misses.' Chamblee on McIlroy's miss on the 72nd hole to force a playoff: 'That was screaming U.S. Open last year.' Lerner: 'Touch 'em all, wasn't just a Masters classic, it was a sports classic.' --NBC SPORTS--

NOTES AND QUOTES – GOLF CENTRAL LIVE FROM THE MASTERS ON GOLF CHANNEL (THIRD ROUND)
'If he does finish it off, today will go down as one of the best third rounds in Masters history.' – Rich Lerner on Rory McIlroy 'He's not as good a golfer as Rory, but he makes up for it in other ways. This guy has got one of the most incredible competitive spirits that I've seen.'– Paul McGinley on Bryson DeChambeau 'Whoever first said that The Masters doesn't start until the back nine on Sunday is probably in the middle of a rewrite. This tournament is not only living up to the hype, it is exceeding the hype.'– Brandel Chamblee STAMFORD, Conn. – April 12, 2025 – Golf Central Live From The Masters continued its comprehensive coverage surrounding the 2025 Masters with post-round reaction and analysis on GOLF Channel following the Third Round. Rich Lerner, Brandel Chamblee, and Paul McGinley anchored Live From The Masters post-round coverage on GOLF Channel. GOLF Channel's studio coverage continues Sunday at 9 a.m. ET with Golf Central Live From the Masters, with primetime coverage on GOLF Channel airing immediately following play. Following are notes and quotes from today's coverage. The Masters – Third Round Leaderboard On Third Round Brandel Chamblee: 'Whoever first said that The Masters doesn't start until the back nine on Sunday is probably in the middle of a rewrite. This tournament is not only living up to the hype, it is exceeding the hype.' On Rory McIlroy (-12, 1st) Rich Lerner: 'If he does finish it off, today will go down as one of the best third rounds in Masters history.' Chamblee on McIlroy's second shot on 15 that led to eagle: 'You can't help but look at this shot and think back to some of the greatest shots you've ever seen Jack [Nicklaus] and Tiger [Woods] hit here. They completed the career Grand Slam. Could it possibly be that he's going to do that because of this shot on this hole that had us all scratching our heads on Thursday and jumping out of our chairs on Saturday? What a shot. What a moment!' Paul McGinley: 'I think he got hurt so badly at [the 2024] U.S. Open that he's got a point to prove, and when he's got a point to prove, that's normally when he's at his best. I saw that today in his body language. This is vintage Rory.' Lerner: 'Last month, you and I saw Steph Curry score 56 points. This was equivalent to Curry scoring 56. It was that good. Tomorrow is Game 7 of the NBA Finals.' McGinley on the competition between McIlroy and DeChambeau: 'I think it's a two-horse race. I think they've distanced themselves. I think the competitive nature between the two of them was brilliant today. I love the fact that they have history with the U.S. Open last year.' On Bryson DeChambeau (-10, 2nd) Chamblee: 'I never, ever imagined somebody would come [to Augusta National] and put on a display of short game like we have seen from Bryson the last two days.' McGinley: 'I don't think Bryson's playing that well at all. I think it shows you that this guy is a hell of a competitor…Rory could have accelerated away from the field today, and credit to Bryson for staying somewhat behind him.' McGinley: 'He's not as good a golfer as Rory, but he makes up for it in other ways. He's a phenomenal driver of the ball, but he doesn't have the quality of iron play that Rory does. He has a brilliant short game…This guy has got one of the most incredible competitive spirits that I've seen, and that's what I admire about him more than anything else.' McGinley on DeChambeau's poise: 'The biggest roar at Augusta National today was Rory's second shot into 15 and then the putt for eagle. The whole place rocked on the back of that. [DeChambeau] was standing down that fairway, and what did he do? He birdied three of the next four holes. He didn't shrivel even though he didn't have his best stuff with him.' --NBC SPORTS--

NOTES AND QUOTES – GOLF CENTRAL LIVE FROM THE MASTERS ON GOLF CHANNEL (SECOND ROUND)
'If he can come back and complete his career grand slam, today could go down as the most important round of his career.' – Brandel Chamblee on Rory McIlroy 'He redid all the work that he undid yesterday on 15 and 17.' – Paul McGinley on McIlroy 'Is he now the guy with the 'X' on his back? … Is that a heavy burden or a weight of expectation on his shoulders?'– McGinley on Scottie Scheffler 'He's a pioneer - a maverick – and I think he has taken over as the most interesting man in golf.' – McGinley on Bryson DeChambeau STAMFORD, Conn. – April 11, 2025 – Golf Central Live From The Masters continued its comprehensive coverage surrounding the 2025 Masters with post-round reaction and analysis on GOLF Channel following the Second Round. Rich Lerner, Brandel Chamblee, and Paul McGinley anchored Live From The Masters post-round coverage on GOLF Channel. GOLF Channel's studio coverage continues Saturday at 8 a.m. ET with Golf Central Live From the Masters, with primetime coverage on GOLF Channel airing immediately following play. Following are notes and quotes from today's coverage. The Masters – Second Round Leaderboard On Second Round Chamblee: 'We have the makings of an epic weekend. We could have an encore performance of Bryson DeChambeau and Rory McIlroy… We could have an encore performance of the 2001 Masters with the No. 1 and No. 2 players going head-to-head.' On Rory McIlroy (-6, T-3rd) Chamblee: 'If he can come back and complete his career grand slam, today could go down as the most important round of his career. This tournament was a buzz yesterday when he doubled at 15 and everyone was shocked… When he hit the shot into 13 today and made an eagle, everyone was the reverse of that.' McGinley: 'He redid all the work that he undid yesterday on 15 and 17… It's great, we love a comeback story. We also want the stars atop the leaderboard.' Chamblee on McIlroy's performance: 'The key is that he was tied for first in strokes-gained ball-striking through the first two rounds… Nobody better than him, and that is the Rory we saw in 2011, 2012, and 2014.' McGinley: 'I thought he played very well, very solid. He put a spurt on around the middle, that's where the scoring came. He's right there, he got the score that he needed today showing a lot of resilience. People are very quick to dismiss him based on the fact that he hasn't won any majors for 11 years… This guy has got a bit about him, there's no doubt about that.' McGinley on McIlroy's recent improved play: 'There has been two massive additions to his team in the last couple of years that have really propelled him for this new evolution of Rory McIlroy. One is Brad Faxon with his putting… and the second is Bob Rotella.' On Scottie Scheffler (-5, T-5th) McGinley on the pressure of Scheffler not having won this season: 'Is he now the guy with the 'X' on his back? We've talked about how statistically; he's been the closest thing we've seen to Tiger Woods in terms of performance statistics… Is that a heavy burden or a weight of expectation on his shoulders?' Chamblee: 'Everything is still good… His chipping was really sharp the first couple of days. It's easy to get a little frustrated. When you finish a round the way he did, it's easy to get a little hot and go over to the range and carry that anger over there where you're completely frustrated.' On Justin Rose (-8, 1st) McGinley: 'I think he battled well today, don't think he had his best stuff. Burden of expectations after a great day yesterday… A good day's work for him. A workman like day for him, I don't think he found it easy out there. His short game bailed him out and he navigated his way around. There's something going on with Justin Rose that allows him to elevate as he gets older… We're not seeing the week-in-week-out steady Eddie that we saw earlier in his career. We're seeing him come into these big events and dig out a performance.' Chamblee: 'He plays this golf course like he did win here; it fits him beautifully. For his entire career he has been overlooked and underappreciated for his scrambling.' On Bryson DeChambeau (-7, 2nd) McGinley: 'He's a pioneer - a maverick – and I think he has taken over as the most interesting man in golf. He's a guy that draws you in whether it be on YouTube or the practice grounds here or his behavior on the golf course which is very high energy – it draws you in. I have always enjoyed watching him play, I like the fact that he's different… I think he's enjoying being back in the spotlight, feeding off of the great performances he had in majors last year, and on both days, he's gotten off to fast starts.' Chamblee: 'We had the pleasure of getting to see Steph Curry play basketball and when we left there we were talking about, in golf, who is the equivalent shot maker and showman? They don't come along very often, and it may very well be Bryson DeChambeau because when you think about what he is, I've never really quite seen another player like him. On one hand, he's a lot like John Daly. He plays the game with an audacity, boldness, and recklessness. On the other hand, he's like Ben Hogan. An endless search to perfection leaving nothing to chance.' --NBC SPORTS--
