About the Oakmont Country Club
The club opened in 1903 and was the only course designed by Henry Fownes, on property in the Allegheny River Valley used primarily as farmland.
Gil Hanse recently oversaw a renovation.
What fans might notice about Oakmont if they're watching for the first time is that there are no water hazards on the course. No ponds, lakes, creeks or rivers. The danger in Oakmont is its length (the course will play 7,372 for the championship) and the number of huge, deep bunkers.

Another feature about Oakmont is the par-3 eighth hole, which can play up to 300 yards, and the 'church pew bunkers,' or rows of grass within a huge fairway bunker, between the par-3 third hole and the par-4 fourth hole.
Oakmont will host U.S. Opens in 2034, 2042, and 2049. It also has hosted three PGA Championships, three NCAA Championships and two U.S. Women's Championships.
The last U.S. Open at Oakmont was in 2016, won by Dustin Johnson.
