SCSO says search for child porn leads to automatic weapons; man held

Appeal-Democrat A Yuba City man suspected of possessing or distributing child pornography was found in possession of fully automatic weapons, according to the Sutter County Sheriff's Office. Detectives served a search warrant at the home of 24-year-old Alejandro Valencia-Barajas on Feb. 13, and during the search they seized a fully automatic AK-47-style rifle, a fully automatic AR-15 rifle, parts to convert firearms into fully automatic weapons, and high-capacity magazines, the sheriff's office reported. Valencia-Barajas was arrested and booked into the Sutter County Jail, on suspicion of possession of child pornography, possession of assault weapons, possession of a short-barreled rifle and possession of a machine gun. The investigation of Valencia-Barajas began in Nov. 2024, conducted by the Sutter County Sheriff's Office Live Oak Investigation Unit, after information provided through the Internet Crimes Against Children data system suggested a Live Oak-area individual was involved in the possession/distribution of child pornography. The ICAC 'receives cyber tips from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children regarding suspected child exploitation reported by electronic service providers,' the SCSO said. After conducting an investigation, detectives suspected the individual to be Valencia-Barajas. Detectives also found evidence to suggest Valencia-Barajas was possibly possessing illegal firearms, the sheriff;'s office said. Valencia-Barajas was scheduled for arraignment Friday afternoon.
