Binghamton's largest Easter egg hunt returns for another year

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. (WIVT/WBGH) – Our area's largest Easter egg hunt is preparing for its 12th edition this weekend. The Children's Charity of Greater Binghamton is hosting the hunt Saturday at Rec Park in Binghamton. With the support of Mirabito Energy Products and the city's Parks and Rec Department, it's a fun filled 2 hours wrapped around a frenzied search for colorful plastic eggs filled with candy and other goodies. As is customary, the park will be divided into four sections: for ages 0 to 3, 4 to 7, 8 to 10, and for those with special needs. Children's Charity President Liz Bucci Burns says a year of planning and weeks of egg stuffing culminate in more than a thousand children filling their buckets with goodies. 'We started out with 5,000 eggs at our first hunt. Now, we're up to 30,000 eggs. We see what it's done for our community, brought people together, families, our friends that are in town for Easter come to volunteer and it's just awesome to step back and see it all unfold every year,' Burns said. The free egg hunt is dedicated to the memory of Westside resident Harper event runs from 10 to noon Saturday, rain or shine, with the hunt starting at 11. Mirabito will provide free pizza, candy, coffee and hot cocoa and the carousel will be open for rides. And there will be DJ Louie G spinning tunes and an appearance by the Easter Bunny.
