Georgia football G-Day spring game today: Quarterbacks air it out for Bulldogs
Georgia football G-Day spring game today: Quarterbacks air it out for Bulldogs
Quarterback Gunner Stockton, who started the Sugar Bowl for Georgia football and is the favorite to win the job this season, threw for 309 yards and No. 2 quarterback Ryan Puglisi threw two touchdown passes as the Red Team beat the Black Team Saturday 34-17 in the G-Day spring game.
Some spring games around the country have been scrapped or seen their formats altered, but this one that wrapped up spring practices for the Bulldogs looked much like the others under Kirby Smart.

It wasn't televised or streamed but a crowd of 35,033 were in Sanford Stadium for an afternoon with temperatures that reached the mid-60s.
Stockton completed 17 of 34 passes for 309 yards with two touchdowns and an interception.
Puglisi completed 20 of 49 passes for 224 yards with 2 touchdowns and an interception. He played mostly with the Black team.
Georgia brought in six newcomers at wide receiver, but the leading pass-catchers on this day were two players that returned.
Dillon Bell had 5 catches for 78 yards for the Red Team and London Humphreys had 4 catches for 77 yards and 2 touchdowns.
Linebacker CJ Allen led the Black team with 8 tackles and linebacker Justin Williams paced the Red team with 9.

London Humphreys with another touchdown
After a 30-yard run from freshman running back Bo Walker, London Humphreys scored on the outside off a 3-yard shovel pass from Ryan Puglisi. The Red leads the Black 27-17.
Gunner Stockton joins in the TD pass party
Gunner Stockton became the third quarterback with a touchdown pass. He hit walk-on Jeremy Ball on the right side for a 31-yard touchdown catch. The Red leads the Black 27-10.
Colbie Young catches touchdown pass from Ryan Puglisi
Ryan Puglisi switched to the Red team and led his new team on a touchdown drive that was capped with a 17-yard touchdown pass to Colbie Young on the left side of the end zone. Young made the catch on Daniel Harris. The Red team leads 20-10.
Walk-on Colter Ginn is the third QB on G-Day
Walk-on Colter Ginn from Perry, Ga., was the third quarterback to get in the game today. He made the most of his moment, connecting with London Humphreys on a 50-yard strike and then a 7-yard touchdown for the Black which pulls within 13-10 early in the third quarter.
Colbie Young touchdown over-ruled by Kirby Smart
Colbie Young caught a 21-yard touchdown pass in the right corner of the end zone, but replays appeared to show he out of bounds. Kirby Smart, who can call the shots in his team's own game, decided to overrule the call on the field.

'Never had that before," Smart told Jeff Dantzler during a radio halftime interview. "I couldn't see it but looked like he was clearly out….I'm trying to keep that game close.'
The Red team extended its lead to 13-3 lead on a 44-yard Peyton Woodring field goal.
A touchdown! A touchdown by Nate Frazier
Nate Frazier's 1-yard touchdown run is the first touchdown of this G-Day. The Red team leads 10-3 near the end of the first half.
The big play was a 36-yard Gunner Stockton to Zachariah Branch completion to set up the score. Branch beat Joenel Aguero on the left side.
Cole Speer going to locker room after getting injured
Georgia senior wide receiver Cole Speer went down injured after a 15-yard completion.

He is heading to the locker room with the help of some trainers. Speer wasn't putting weight on his left leg.
The Calhoun native had 3 catches for 37 yards last season.
Black ties it up on drive with a couple of drops
The Black team went 49 yards in 10 plays and tied this G-Day at 3 on a 23-yard field goal by Liam Badger.
Two Ryan Puglisi passes were dropped on the drive by Talyn Taylor and Elyiss Williams.
The big play was a 35-yard one-handed catch from wide receiver CJ Wiley.
Ryan Puglisi's start so far
The Black team offense under Ryan Puglisi hasn't got much going so far.
He is 5 of 7 for 12 yards and a false start penalty was called on the quarterback in the last possession that ended with a punt.
Red team leads! Red team leads!
We have the first score of G-Day.

Peyton Woodring booted a 35-yard field goal to cap a 9 play, 50-yard drive over 5:20 to make it 3-0 Red.
The big play was a Gunner Stockton to Jaden Reddell 15-yard completion. The tight end later hobbled off the field.
The first quarter ended one play later when the Black team ran off one play.
Daniel Harris with an interception in the end zone
Both teams' offenses went three-and-out to start the game, but Gunner Stockton and the Red team got going with a couple of completions to Lawson Luckie.
Daniel Harris won a battle for a deep ball on the right side of the end zone to pick off a Gunner Stockton interception on a throw to Colbie Young. Stockton is 3 of 6 for 32 yards.
Different look wide receiver corps
With Zachariah Branch in the slot and Noah Thomas and Colbie Young on the outside, this is a different looking wide receiver corps. Branch reportedly was battling an injury in the scrimmage last week, it looks like he will play today.
Name adjustment on WR Sacovie White's jersey
The last name on wide receiver Sacovie White's jersey today is White-Helton. That's not reflected on the rosters Georgia handed out in the press box.

So what's the story with the name from the redshirt freshman from Cartersville?
The Heltons are the family he moved in with in the eighth grade, according to this from 11 Alive.
G-Day format for Georgia football today
Here's the deal for how things will run today for the scrimmage:
It's four 15-minute quarters but the clock will be running except after scores, penalties, change of possession and the last four minutes of the half.
There will be a 12 minute halftime.
Quarterbacks and injured players (they are playing?) will wear white non-contact jerseys.
Instead of kickoffs and returns, the ball will be spotted at the 30-yard line.

There will be punts, but no returns. There will be a tag-off for returners.
Field goals will take place, but only rushes from the middle. None from the outside.
Defensive back Ondre Evans on crutches and out for G-Day
Redshirt freshman defensive back Ondre Evans is listed on the Red team roster but he was on crutches during the Dawg Walk and will be a no go today. The Franklin, Tenn., native enrolled early in 2024 but did not see any game action.
