Girl, three, died when mini-tornado blew trampoline she was jumping on into the air, inquest hears

A three-year-old girl died when a mini-tornado blew the trampoline she was jumping on into the air and over a hedge, an inquest has heard. Felicity Keepin, from Longney, Gloucestershire, was blown a 'considerable distance' when the wind swept the trampoline into a nearby field on May 10. She was rushed to Bristol Children's Hospital but tragically died one week later. Neighbour Adam Nash told the inquest at Gloucestershire Coroners' Court he saw a 'mini tornado' and heard a very loud noise. He said according to the BBC: 'I was cutting the grass hedge when I heard a noise which sounded like a freight train. 'I saw a mini tornado crossing the road, about seven to eight metres in width, which left a mark in the hedge.' The family had bought the 12ft trampoline the week before and although it had a net, it was not anchored down. Assistant Gloucestershire coroner Roland Wooderson described the horror incident as 'every parent's worst nightmare'. The hearing heard that Felicity's mother and brother were at home and supervising Felicity when the 'freak gust' occurred. Mr Wooderson concluded that Felicity's death was accidental and advised people to weight down their trampolines. However, he noted that in this case anchoring it down may not have made a difference. Mr Wooderson said Felicity was under the 'careful supervision' of her mother and what happened was an 'extraordinary, tragic and unforeseen accident'.
