The bronze statue of a man holding a water jug while a little girl tugs on his shirt was restored in 2022 at a cost of over $38,000, the city said. Officials called the statue a 'symbol of joy and connection' in the community.
According to officials, the little girl portion of the statue was stolen on March 12. Out of concern for further vandalism, city staff have removed the 'dad' portion of the statue for safekeeping.
The Antioch Police Department has been notified and a police report filed. At this time, police say they have no suspect descriptions, leads, or evidence. No arrests have been made.
