Chase Burns pitches shutout in return to Knoxville
Chattanooga (27-24) defeated Knoxville (25-29), 3-0 in seven innings, Saturday in the fourth contest of a six-game series at Covenant Health Park. Saturday's contest between the Lookouts and Smokies was part of a doubleheader.
Former Vol Chase Burns (6-1) started for the Lookouts in his return to Knoxville. He pitched a complete game (seven innings) and recorded six strikeouts. Burns totaled 80 pitches, including 60 strikes, against 24 batters.
He allowed three hits, zero runs and zero walks.
Burns played for the Vols from 2022-23 before transferring to Wake Forest in 2024. He was selected No. 2 overall in the first round of the 2024 MLB draft by Cincinnati. Chattanooga is a Double-A affiliate for the Reds.
Burns (13-5) appeared in 35 games, including 22 starts, at Tennessee. He recorded a 3.54 ERA, 217 strikeouts and two saves in 152.1 innings.
Tennessee (57-9) won the SEC regular season and tournament championships in 2022. The Vols (44-22) advanced to the College World Series in 2023.
