Los Dos Potrillos settles lawsuit filed by employees for over $3M

DENVER (KDVR) — Local restaurant chain Los Dos Potrillos has settled a lawsuit with employees for $3.75 million after claims of underpaying workers and violating several laws. According to the class action settlement approved by a federal judge last week, workers claim the restaurant didn't pay the required minimum wage to front-of-house employees and failed to tell customers of the restaurant's tip pooling policy, pay proper overtime rates and provide employees with required rest periods. The lawsuit was filed by former employee Gladis Castaneda in 2023. Castaneda said the restaurant 'retaliated' and unlawfully terminated her after she told customers of the tip pooling policy. Our 70% employee retention rate demonstrates our commitment to our team. Ramirez Hospitality Group $230,500 of the settlement will go to Castaneda for retaliation claims and $15,000 as the named plaintiff. $1,249,875 will go to attorney fees and costs and $50,000 for costs of administering the settlement. The remaining settlement money will go to hourly employees for wage and civil theft claims from Jan. 19, 2020, to April 8, 2024. The court document estimates an average payout of $1,565 to workers who are part of the class action settlement, with a range of $25,677 to $65. The document said the settlement was reached after months of negotiations. Los Dos Potrillos is a local Mexican restaurant with several locations across the Denver metro. The restaurant has locations in Centennial, Highlands Ranch, Littleton, Parker and Castle Rock, and just opened its sixth location in Denver. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Popular Mexican restaurant chain in Colorado expands with new Denver location

A local Mexican restaurant with deep roots in the suburbs has just opened a new location, this time in Denver. Los Dos Potrillos now has six locations, including Centennial, Littleton, Highlands Ranch, Parker, Denver and Castle Rock. The newest spot opened Tuesday near I-25 and Colorado Boulevard. They said a good restaurant feels like a home away from home, and inside the newest Los Dos Potrillos in Denver, that's exactly the vibe. After more than 20 years in the suburbs, this opening marks a full circle moment for the Ramirez family. They're not only bringing their signature flavors to the city, they're also helping mentor young entrepreneurs. For the past few months, Alexica Hernandez, a senior at Eaglecrest High School and student at Cherry Creek Innovation Campus, has learned the ins and outs of the restaurant business through an internship. "I learned everything; dedication, how to work as a team, how to manage it right," said Hernandez. Her goal is to one day own a restaurant herself. For CEO Daniel Ramirez, giving back in this way is personal. "That's the bigger picture. How do we continue creating goals, and how do we help others achieve theirs?" said Ramirez. For the last two decades, the Ramirez family has established a reputation for itself in Colorado's restaurant scene. While their Northglenn location recently closed, the restaurants in Littleton, Castle Rock, and Highlands Ranch are regularly packed. Now, they're opening their sixth location in the city where their dream first began: Denver. "It feels like a homecoming to be able to say, 'Look, we did something really fun in the suburbs. Now, let's get back to our roots,'" said Ramirez. And they're in a position to pass along those lessons to the next generation. This marks Los Dos Potrillos' sixth location, and its first in Denver, set to employ 120 people.

Parker Police Department adds weekend shifts to prevent street racing

DENVER (KDVR) — The Parker Police Department added extra shifts over the weekend to place a priority on preventing street racing. The police department announced the new practice in a social media post on Friday. The post said that police would be looking for people out of 'Dom Toretto's crew,' referencing the titular character of the 'Fast and Furious' franchise. In the franchise, racing can earn you a pink slip, a slip referencing the ownership of a person's vehicle, but Parker police said street racers won't be earning pink slips — they'll be earning speeding tickets. A local Mexican restaurant, Los Dos Potrillos, is expanding across the metro with its newest location in Denver. 'It's not about the car; it's about the driver,' said Toretto in the film. Police said that's who they're looking for: drivers who put other people's safety at risk on Parker's streets. The streets belong to the people, not to rogue racers trying to turn Parker into their personal drag strip. More information about the Parker Police Department can be found on the agency's website.
