Louisiana lawmaker charged with DWI, child endangerment after auto accident

State Rep. Kyle Green asks questions from the floor of the Louisiana House Representatives on May 16, 2023. (Matthew Perschall/Louisiana Illuminator) A Louisiana lawmaker faces charges for driving while intoxicated and child endangerment after police said he was involved in a single-car wreck early Wednesday morning with his three children. Louisiana State Police arrived on the accident scene at 2:30 a.m. Wednesday, according to a news release. State Rep. Kyle Green Jr., D-Marrero, reportedly veered off U.S. Highway 90 Business in West Jefferson near Ames Boulevard and struck a concrete barrier with his 2023 Honda Accord. Green and the children were uninjured, according to police. The children were released to a relative. 'Troopers noticed signs of impairment and conducted a series of standardized field sobriety tests. Green was subsequently placed under arrest,' the State Police release said. Green was taken to the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center, where troopers said he refused to take a breath test. A judge's warrant allowed investigators to obtain blood samples and, based on the results, Green was booked for first offense DWI, three counts of DWI with child endangerment, careless operation, improper lane use and a traffic attachment from Jefferson Parish. State Police did not disclose Green's blood alcohol level. Green did not respond immediately to attempts to reach him Wednesday morning. Records from the Jefferson Parish jail show Green's total bond was $2,800. This is a developing story.
