Reality TV Wades Into Cross-Generational Dating Pools
Age-gap relationships are nothing new when it comes to depictions of older men in TV and film plots. But a wave of recent releases, including 'Babygirl,' 'The Idea of You,' 'Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy" and 'Lonely Planet,' have zeroed in on romantic and sexual relationships between women in midlife and younger men. Two new reality dating spinoffs are now catching up. Bravo's 'Love Hotel,' which premiered Sunday, features three over-50 'Real Housewives' — Luann de Lesseps, 59, Gizelle Bryant, 54, and Shannon Beador, 61 — looking for love among eligible bachelors whose ages range from their 30s to their 60s at a luxury resort in Los Cabos, Mexico. (Ashley Darby, 36, rounds out the group of bachelorettes.) In the first episode Bryant asks Wale Alesh, 38, if he wants children. When he responds that he does, the cameras cut to Bryant in an interview filmed after. 'Gizelle doesn't have a uterus, so that means we aren't compatible,' she says, speaking in the third person. Meeting Jay Bramble, 46, Bryant explained: 'My three daughters are in college. I have the house to myself, so I just walk around naked.' He responded, 'You're living the dream.' Bryant, who is divorced and who dated the 'Winter House' cast member Jason Cameron, 38, on a past season of 'The Real Housewives of Potomac,' said it's important that audiences see mature women living vital love lives. 'Hey, ain't nobody dead because they have, like, jumped over 39,' she said in an interview. Bryant added that the program gives the women a chance to show 'we can spend whatever days we have left in a happy place with somebody that, you know, you really want to rock out with.' Several of de Lesseps's relationships and marriages were chronicled on 'The Real Housewives of New York,' but she said 'Love Hotel' gives her an opportunity to show that she's 'in the driver's seat' when it comes to dating. 'I'm not 20 anymore. I feel like 20, but I'm at a different stage of dating,' de Lesseps said, adding: 'I make my own money, my kids are grown.' Their attitudes reflect the fact that Americans are marrying later now than they did 50 years ago, for example, according to median age charts for first marriages from the U.S. Census Bureau. And the experiences of more seasoned daters are not often portrayed on most reality dating shows. ABC's 'Bachelor' franchise capitalized on that starting in 2023, when it looked to pair the 72-year-old widower Gerry Turner with the 60-and-up contestants of 'The Golden Bachelor.' The next year, Joan Vassos, then 61, searched for love on 'The Golden Bachelorette.' This summer, the popular spinoff 'Bachelor in Paradise' will feature 35-and-under singles from the original show alongside 'Golden' hopefuls, including Gary Levingston, 66, of 'The Golden Bachelorette.' The logistics of the show, and whether the contestants will be grouped by age, has not been announced, but the draw of heaping them all into the same show seemed clear to Levingston. Without age diversity among contestants, he said, 'you've left out a part of the market segment that's still out here.'

Joel Kim Booster is giving the people what they want. Just last week, the handsome actor had fans going wild over his cheeky poolside pics during the first weekend of Coachella. With Pride season around the corner, Booster's followers can expect to see the Loot star showing plenty of skin in the coming months. "I do it for you! Credit to Patrick Church, he knows what he's doing. He knows how to cut those Speedos. Right now, gathering together and standing together as a community is more important than ever," Booster tells PRIDE. See on Instagram Besides posting sexy photos online, Booster is always keeping himself busy with a plethora of exciting projects. The talented star is now adding 'TV host' to his résumé by presenting the brand new Real Housewives spin-off Bravo's Love Hotel. Booster is helping four iconic Bravolebrities including Shannon Beador, Ashley Darby, Gizelle Bryant, and Luann de Lesseps find love at a luxurious resort. "I was really excited, but really nervous. I've never done reality TV before. These women raised me! It was like flying directly into the surface of the sun. It was really fun!" Although Booster and Beador got along while filming the new show, some drama happened behind the scenes once cameras went down. Booster posted a rant on social media, which included quite a few harsh words for Beador that left many Bravo fans shocked. "Neither Shannon nor I are interested in relitigating any of this again. I'm going to be a distant memory for Shannon Beador. I'm a small fish for Shannon Beador. We'll be able to coexist. It hasn't dimmed my enjoyment of watching the show, so I hope it doesn't for anybody else either." Bravo's Love Hotel premieres this Sunday. Ashley Darby Speaks Out on Mia Thornton's 'RHOP' Exit: 'This is Not an Easy Process' (Exclusive)
Ashley Darby is looking for love. The OG of The Real Housewives of Potomac stars alongside other housewives in Bravo's Love Hotel, the reality TV network's brand new dating series. The show follows Darby, her RHOP buddy Gizelle Bryant, RHOC star Shannon Beador and RHONY alum Luann de Lesseps as they travel to Los Cabos, Mexico, to find their one true love in a pool of eligible bachelors. For Darby, this series has been something she's wanted to do for a long time. "Andy Cohen will tell you that I have been asking, begging and pleading for something like this for the past two and a half years," she quipped in an exclusive interview with Parade. Darby confessed that not only did she want a Bravo dating show, but other fellow Bravo stars, including Kenya Moore and Sutton Stracke (who aren't on Season 1 at least), also liked the idea. "When finally, the powers that be listened to the ladies and gave us what we wanted, I knew that it was going to be a fantastic thing," she said. "So I packed my bags and ran to Cabo." Related: ' Unlike other dating shows, the four contestants are extremely well-known, with an audience that has followed their personal love lives for the better part of a decade. That layer adds stakes to the experience, and as Ashley puts it, allows viewers to watch them "redefine" what love means to them. "None of us have been in this situation where these men were vetted," she explains. "We've all dated our share, and obviously haven't had the best to know that we were putting our faith in the hands of whoever were counting these men, was a little nervewrecking but also exciting." She adds that they all had to learn to "trust the process." What surprised Ashley the most about this experience? Just how real the journey became for her. "I didn't expect to care or to be as invested as I actually became," she said. "I thought I was going to go and play this game of chess, and do my thing, but surprisingly, I really developed real feelings, and I allowed myself to fall into this web of love and I didn't think I was going to. I was really guarded about it ... but it overtook me. I really leaned into the experience." Related: Darby also shared her thoughts on the latest news coming out of The Real Housewives of Potomac: Mia Thornton's departure from the series. Just hours after Thornton took to Instagram with her announcement, Darby told Parade that she understands that a show like The Real Housewives "can be challenging." "This is not an easy process," Darby said. "I can attest first hand. I know that when things are in the shitter, and everyone has an opinion on your life and you have to answer some hard questions, it can be very challenging and it's mentally taxing. If Mia is not in a place where she can handle that and deal with that, then I support and I'm happy that she is making the right decision for herself to leave the show." "That's most important," she added. "Getting her life together, making sure her children are happy and taken care of, those are the priorities that she needs to focus on and I'm glad, hopefully, that she's doing that." Bravo's Love Hotel premieres Sunday, April 27th at 9 p.m. ET/PT on Bravo, with episodes streaming next day on Peacock.

"Real Housewives of Potomac" stars look for love on new Bravo dating show
There's a new reality dating show from Bravo starring two of the former "Real Housewives of Potomac" cast members — and it premieres this weekend, per a release shared with Axios. Why it matters: Um, Bravo? "Real Housewives of Potomac?" Premieres this weekend? We rest our case.
