New details in Love's Travel Stop shooting suspect's arrest after car chase

WICHITA FALLS (KFDX/KJTL) — The suspect in a shooting at a Wichita Falls truck stop is in jail after a 7.4-mile car chase and foot pursuit. Jose 'Pelon' Perez is charged with aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury for the May 30, 2025 shooting at Love's Travel Stop, as well as another charge for aggravated assault causing serious bodily during the chase. He's also charged with evading, possession, three counts of duty on striking an unattended vehicle, collision involving damage, and obstruction. Just before 8 p.m. on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, Wichita Falls police attempted to make a traffic stop at 500 Lincoln Street on a Cadillac Escalade being driven by Perez. According to the arrest affidavit, Perez refused to stop and drove southbound through the Shotz Liquor store parking lot before turning west onto Lincoln. Police said Perez then headed south into the 400 block of Scott Avenue and continued driving at a high rate of speed and disregarding any traffic laws. Officers said he ran multiple red lights and stop signs onto East Scott Avenue before turning east onto McKinney Road, and then south into the 1900 block of McKinney Rd. Police said Perez went west onto Best Boulevard, south onto Lucas Avenue, west onto Bandera Boulevard, and south into the 1100 block of Windthorst Road. According to police, Perez then went into the Love's Travel Stop parking lot and nearly hit multiple vehicles turning and continued to travel north onto the Central Freeway access road and then south onto Jacksboro Highway into the 1400 block of 32nd Street travelling west. Officers said Perez then began heading north onto Holliday Street, west onto Dodge Street, and continued north onto the trail between Dodge Street and Cole Street until he turned east onto Cole Street. An officer in an unmarked unit then attempted to set up spike strips, but Perez sped up and collided with officer's vehicle, just as the officer got out. Police said Perez continued travelling east and stopped at the intersection of Cole Street and Carrigan Street, got out of SUV and took off on foot into the backyard of a home in the 1500 block of Carrigan Street where he was later tased and taken into custody. During a search of Perez's vehicle, police said they found a plastic baggy containing 1.93 grams of methamphetamine in the SUV's center console. Perez was taken to United Regional to be checked out, and police said he threatened to beat them up when he got out. He was then taken to the Wichita County Law Enforcement Center where he was booked on bonds totaling $1.358 million. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
