Photo: New Delhi: The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has directed the makers of the Aamir Khan-starrer movie Sitaare Zameen Par to include a quote by Prime Minister Narendra Modi mentioning the year 2047 in the opening disclaimer. The suggestion to include Modi's quote is part of the five changes/suggestions to the film which the CBFC has directed the makers to incorporate, reported Hindustan Times. The film was subsequently issued a U/A certification on June 17, which confirms that the modifications were done, with the Prime Minister's quote inserted after the film's opening disclaimer, which has also been changed as per the CBFC's directions. The newspaper reported that it was not immediately clear what the quote is about. The movie, which is set to release on June 20, stars Aamir Khan and Genelia Deshmukh, and tells the story of a basketball coach who teaches the sport to a team of intellectually disabled people as community service after the directions of a court. The other changes in the movie directed by CBFC were the replacement of the term 'business woman' with 'business person'; a 30-second disclaimer at the beginning of the film be replaced with a 26-second voice-over; a visual containing the word 'kamal' (lotus) be removed, along with its appearance in subtitles; and 'Michael Jackson' be replaced with 'Lovebirds' in the subtitles. In recent years, the CBFC has increasingly been suggesting cuts and modifications in movie scenes. In April this year, the CBFC had asked the makers of the film Phule to remove several caste-based terms, after objection from Brahmin outfits, resulting in the postponing of its release. The directive of CBFC included removing terms such as 'Mahar', 'Mang', 'Peshvai', and 'Manu's system of caste', with the censor board terming them as 'sensitive.' Ananth Mahadevan, the director of Phule had told The Wire that he didn't agree with the modifications suggested by the CBFC. CBFC Asks Sitaare Zameen Par Makers To Add PM Narendra Modi's Quote After Opening Disclaimer: Reports

Days after Sitaare Zameen Par was cleared by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) without any cuts, it is being reported that the film body had asked the makers of the Aamir Khan-starrer to make a few additions to the movie, including adding a quote of Prime Minister Narendra Modi after the opening disclaimer. According to a report by Bollywood Hungama, the release of the film -- backed by the actor's Aamir Khan Productions -- was in limbo after the Censor Board suggested a few cuts in the movie, something that was unacceptable to Aamir Khan. The superstar was reportedly not satisfied with the changes asked by the CBFC's Examining Committee, following which the Revising Committee, headed by theatre veteran and academic Waman Kendre, watched the film recently. According to this report by Bollywood Hungama, the Revising Committee also asked the makers to replace the terms - 'Michael Jackson' with 'Lovebirds' and 'Business Woman' with 'Business Person'. The Revising Committee also asked the producers to remove a visual with the word ' kamal '. After these changes were made, the CBFC granted a U/A 13+ certificate to the Sitaare Zameen Par makers, the report further stated. The film, directed by RS Prasanna, will hit the screens on Friday (June 20). As far as the box office business of Sitaare Zameen Par is concerned, the movie has already raised Rs 1.03 crore without block seats in advance booking. According to a report by trade website Sacnilk, the film has sold over 39,000 tickets for its opening day across India. Also starring Genelia Deshmukh, Sitaare Zameen Par is billed as the spiritual sequel to 2007's Taare Zameen Par, which marked the directorial debut of Aamir Khan.

Did CBFC ask Aamir Khan to add PM Modi's quote in ‘Sitaare Zameen Par'? Here's what we know

Actor Aamir Khan's latest film Sitaare Zameen Par is all set to hit the theatres on June 20. However, before it reaches audiences, the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has reportedly suggested a notable edit. As per a report by Hindustan Times, the board has directed the filmmakers to add a quote by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the film's opening disclaimer. The directive is part of a set of five edits the CBFC recommended before granting the film a U/A certification on June 17, a certification that allows unrestricted public exhibition but suggests parental guidance for children under 13. The PM's quote, which refers to the year 2047—India's centenary of independence—has been added after an altered version of the film's original disclaimer. However, the specific content of the quote remains undisclosed. Directed by RS Prasanna, Sitaare Zameen Par is a remake of the 2018 Spanish film Champions, which tells the story of a coach who is court-ordered to train a team of intellectually disabled players. The film was reviewed by a nine-member revising committee chaired by theatre veteran Waman Kendre, suggesting that it underwent a second level of scrutiny following its initial evaluation. According to CBFC protocols, such committees are typically constituted when the board chairperson or the film's producers request a revision after the examining committee's initial review. In addition to the PM's quote, the board instructed the filmmakers to: Replace the term 'businesswoman' with 'business person". Shorten a 30-second visual disclaimer to a 26-second voice-over. Remove a visual containing the word 'kamal' (lotus), including its appearance in subtitles. Substitute 'Michael Jackson' with 'Lovebirds' in subtitles. All changes have reportedly been implemented by Aamir Khan Films LLP, as confirmed by the final clearance certificate. The total runtime of the film now stands at 2 hours, 38 minutes, and 43 seconds. The CBFC and its chairperson, Rajendra Singh, have not publicly commented on the matter, while Kendre declined to respond to queries, HT reported. The movie has Aamir Khan and Genelia Deshmukh in the lead roles.
